Weekly Address: America Can Do Anything

Source: White House

In this week's address, the President remarked on the incredible progress that has been made in the American auto industry. Just seven years ago, the industry was on the brink of collapse, with plants closing and hundreds of thousands of workers getting laid off. The President made a decision in his first couple of months in office to place his bet on American workers and American manufacturing, implementing a strategy to bring the American auto industry back. Since then, Detroit-area unemployment has been cut by more than half, and automakers have added more than 640,000 new jobs. On January 20, the President will visit the Detroit Auto Show to see this progress firsthand. Because the story of the auto industry is an apt illustration of all that America has accomplished in the past seven years, and all that it can do.

Except... jail the banksters who cratered our economy and stole millions of homes through mortgage fraud

Except... build a high speed rail system as good as Europe's

Except...build our own bridges and infrastructure

Sorry, I'm pretty disgusted that America has become the Can't Do It Country. The headline turned me off, I responded.

I think this is a linchpin move to restore American democracy. It will be my litmus test for supporting ANY candidate for ANY public office!

Listened this a.m. on the radio and didn't expect the pivot to the car industry... but then GM had their announcement about the Chevy Bolt for that Auto Show.

But as a side note, I did see Michael Moore's email blast about the the lead-poisoned water fiasco in car-town Flint and his open letter to the Governor. That is a damn disgrace and at this point, perhaps to get started on executive actions on this, the EPA can be directed to declare Flint a superfund site.
