Hillary Clinton Calls for 'Spirited Debate' With Bernie Sanders as Race Heats Up
By Liz Kreutz
WATERLOO, IOWA Jan 11, 2016, 4:24 PM ET
In snowy Iowa, the race is heating up.
..................................
I think its time for us to have the kind of spirited debate that you deserve us to have. Were so much better than the Republicans, but we do have differences and you deserve to know what those differences are, Clinton said at a campaign event in Waterloo, Iowa today, after taking on Sanders for his position on health care.
"I just have a difference with Senator Sanders. He has a different plan, Clinton said.
She said that where she and Sanders part on health care is that her plan would not raise taxes on the middle class, while his plan would. ............................
Later, Clinton went after Sanders on gun control - pointing out again that she voted against immunity for gun manufacturers in lawsuits in the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act," while he voted for it. Sanders has since said that he is willing to reconsider liability for gun manufacturers.
I believe those are one of the significant differences between me and Senator Sanders, Clinton said about her gun policies. ...................

(5,122 posts)We've been begging for more debates but the DNC says no.
Hillary should talk to Debbie first.

Is she sure Debbie is OK with that?

A poster form the other camp has reminded me through a PM that Mrs. Clinton has always expressed an openness to more debates. On this point I stand corrected and apologize for my error, which is solely my own.

By contrast, Martin OMalleys campaign wanted many more debates. DNC officials suggested to the Clinton campaign that more than four would be necessary, the senior Dem continues. The Clinton camp showed flexibility at that point, but was uncomfortable with the idea of too many debates, and ultimately agreed to six, the senior Dem says. The tone of these discussions was more along the lines of collective brainstorming, and less like aggressive haggling, this official says.
When the outcry began for more debates, Hillary said she was open to them, but I could swear I saw her and DWS wink at each other. As usual, Hillary speaks out of both sides of her mouth.

(45,984 posts)Mrs. Clinton's stated position has been, in fact, to be open to more debates. As long as DWS was playing obstinate, Mrs. Clinton could say this even didn't mean it. I may have an opinion on whether up to now she's really wanted more, but I'll keep it to myself.

(7,018 posts)with, and is now ahead of her. She certainly said nothing when he was behind, and
both he and O'Malley were asking for more debates. She kept very quiet then. It
looks like a dead give-away.

(24,324 posts)In fact, maybe he should just say no NOW !

(66 posts)He is only following DNC rules if they schedule another debate, it would simply underline something he has been asking for months. I expect his campaign to hit the DNC hard on that and ask why they aren't doing their job and whether their incompetence is voluntary or whether they were waiting for what the person in charge to give them the go ahead. Should be fun news cycle which will hopefully drive DWS to her resignation due to gross incompetence

(24,324 posts)I don't know if I have ever seen a more hypocritical Democrat running for president in my lifetime.. which goes WAY, WAY back. Maybe I have forgotten, but...this just takes the cake.

The last debate before the Iowa caucuses should be interesting. She's got no choice but to try and tear Sanders apart. It's the only thing she can do. She's backed up against a wall and when this happens to politicians they usually behave recklessly and attacks make them look weak, unstable.
Sanders definitely has the advantage going into the final phase of the caucus season. All he has to do is continue what he's been doing, and stay as cool as a cucumber. He can politely and firmly deflect her manic episodes by treating her like a lunatic with a hand grenade, "There, there Hillary...let me explain my position."
He'll look Presidential and she'll look unhinged.
God this is too easy. It's like all of my political dreams have come true.

(3,111 posts)Seriously, I want a politician I can believe in. That is no Hillary.
I'd like a DNC I can believe in too. That is not what is run by Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
I'm keeping my nose to the grindstone for Bernie. They'll work it out somehow, but to call for debates now, surely that is the height of hypocrisy.

Oh, NOW "it's time ..."
It really is just hilarious.
Until Sen. Sanders pulled even with her in the polls in Iowa ... Hillary had only a 'nose in the air' attitude towards "spirited" debate with Sanders.
And, I just saw a clip of her at a town hall in Iowa on Chris Hayes show.
That was hilarious, too.
Man, the shucks I'm one of ya down-home accent was heavy, heavy, heavy.
Mrs. Clinton is such a phony.

(6,960 posts)I'm listening to Hillary Clinton now on Chris Hayes' tv show.
And it is all now attack, attack, attack on Sen. Sanders.
That tells us that the Clinton internal polls must show her losing Iowa.
