Harney County - Individual arrested in connection with stolen refuge vehicles
Source: Barney County Sheriff's Office
An individual is in custody in connection with stolen Malheur National Wildlife Refuge vehicles.
Shortly after noon on Friday, January 15, 2016, Oregon State Police arrested Kenneth Medenbach, 62, of Crescent, Oregon, at the Safeway in Burns, Oregon. He was arrested on probable cause for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Law enforcement officers recovered two vehicles stolen from the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) had previously reported the vehicles stolen to the Harney County Sheriff's Office.
OSP troopers and deputies from several county Sheriff's offices responded to the scene.
"The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is grateful for the quick actions from law enforcement," said USFWS spokesperson Megan Nagel. "We will continue to work with law enforcement to recover vehicles bought and paid for by the American people to care for their national wildlife refuge."

(111,397 posts)He's also a climate change denier who has been hauled up in Federal court for illegally living on protected land.
If the bastard would stick to what he's good at (sculpture) and stay away from trying to rip off the US taxpayers, he'd be worthwhile.

(17,155 posts)serious. Let's hope there's a long stretch of dark nights deep in the Federal lockup for this twit.
I hope there's a behind-the-scenes group of legal staff preparing ¡Surprise! charges for these costume-wearing yayhoos.
The Feds often aren't in a big hurry, but when they finally do move, a conviction is pretty much assured.

They'll probably publicize this as evidence of what the "JBTs" (jack-booted thugs) are planning. In response, they'll put out a call for more armed self-styled "militia" members to show up. It's a net gain for the Bundy Bunch if at least two more show up.
...given that any new recruits will be permitted to waltz right in to federal property, toting and indeed ostentatiously displaying their guns, and join the earlier arrivals in looting and vandalizing the wildlife refuge.

(22,674 posts)Sounds like he gave up information in exchange.
This type of news, where one of their own turns against them when the cards are down, will probably make future extortion of public lands less probable.
Still waiting for the other foot to drop.

(3,687 posts)Those vehicles probably have government insignia's plastered all over them.
And in a small town EVERYONE knows WHO should be driving them and who shouldn't

(1,858 posts)Both vehicles -- a pickup and a passenger van, bore door signs reading "Harney County Resource Center." That's the new name occupiers have given to the bird sanctuary they occupy, which is about 30 miles southeast of Burns.

(160,655 posts)Police say man arrested in vehicle stolen from refuge
Keith Ridler, Associated Press
Updated 7:51 pm, Friday, January 15, 2016
BURNS, Ore. (AP) Oregon State Police arrested a man Friday they said was driving a government vehicle stolen from a wildlife refuge being occupied by an armed group protesting federal land policies.
Kenneth Medenbach, 62, of Crescent was arrested at a grocery store in Burns for investigation of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, authorities said.
It was unclear if he has a lawyer. According to federal court records Medenbach is already facing charges in U.S. District Court in Medford after authorities said he illegally camped on federal land between May and November last year.
Authorities also say they recovered a second stolen vehicle from the refuge but provided no other details. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service previously reported the vehicles had been stolen.
