Gov. Brown scolds feds on Malheur occupation response

Source: Statesman Journal

Gov. Kate Brown again called for an end to the armed occupation of a wildlife refuge in rural Harney County and criticized federal officials for their tactics during a press conference Wednesday. The occupation of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, near Burns, now in its third week, has no clear end in sight. Circumspect state and federal law enforcement stationed in Burns have not used force to end the occupation.

...

Brown said federal authorities asked her and other state officials to "limit our public comments" to avoid escalating the situation. Although she has heeded that request, Brown chastised federal officials Wednesday for allowing the standoff to continue as long as it has.

"The residents of Harney County have been overlooked and undeserved by federal official's response thus far," she said. "I have conveyed these very grave concerns directly to our leaders at the highest levels of our government: the U.S. Department of Justice and the White House."

Unbelievable. The only people the DOJ has even ASKED to do something are the state officials who were asked to STFU and let the Bundy thugs run rampant.

Do your damn job, AG Lynch!!

I don't think any governor has power over federal property...unless certain circumstances occur, like a high speed chase by local law enforcement!

Any one out there got a better take on this?

If, for example, you rob a federal armory the local law can stop you. (presumably)

If you break the window of a Post Office, presumably a cop can arrest you.

Including the reserve employees who can't even take their kids to school because they're afraid these sovereign citizen animals will shoot them.

Tolerating open rebellion and armed insurrection has severe consequences, none of them good.

The reserve employees are still working and I'm sure they've made other arrangements for their children to attend school since the schools are closed.

You ASSUME the feds are tolerating open rebellion because you don't know what's going on because you cannot SEE what's going on. I think this is BIG - very BIG.

Just a couple of things. NSA can pull up an image of a straight pin on the floor of building. You don't think they're watching them? You don't think they're listening to them? You don't think they're tracking their network all over the country and in Europe? You don't think they've infiltrated the group? Have you thought about the fact that the military has developed a serious roach problem since America elected it's first AA president? Don't you think they should assess that connection BEFORE taking the terrorists down? Aren't there women and children at the site?

I think there are lots of moving pieces here so whatever operation they go with has to work like an atomic clock. I trust the WH and the feds. And I can wait until they're ready to implement their take down operation.

Because I want them in prison forever.

realizing the NSA is 1) Not the National Reconnaissance Office and 2) Forbidden from acting within the US.

Critical thinking would also lead you to realize that if the schools are still closed in late January, then we are denying an education to a town full of kids to placate these militia yahoos.

Critical thinking would also have you bother to think about the last time this happened. What were the charges after the Bundy standoff? None. Where was that "takedown" operation? Didn't happen. Critical thinking would also cause you to remember the two police officers that were murdered after a couple decided the standoff's success meant it was time to start the revolution.

Also, you completely glossed over the problem that the NSA can't watch the site, because the NSA doesn't have optical satellites. Which helpfully demonstrates you don't know what you're talking about.

Students can go to other schools or access online educational formats

Because that's free and doesn't take any additional time!!!

I think the issue is much larger than what we can SEE.

I think the issue is you want to believe something is being done, despite the lack of evidence that anything is being done, and the history of nothing being done.

in different circumstances such as students with cancer.

Of course something is being done. You can't see it so that means it's not happening.

That level of surveillance wouldn't be done by the FBI because it would involve so many other businesses and agencies. The FBI doesn't have that capability. These agencies collaborate and coordinate. They just have different requirements for surveillance when it's a domestic target.

they are getting:
1) to break the law with impunity in broad daylight, at the point of a gun,
2) to use the Malheur sanctuary (a Native American sacred site with many artifacts at risk) as
a National TV platform to spew their arrogant & hateful anti-Federal Gov't nonsense into our
living rooms every night,
3) to "put out the word" to like-minded armed lunatics to "join them" in seizing Federal land at
the point of a gun, and/or for other ranchers to refuse to pay their grazing fees and tear up their
contracts with the BLM,
4) to come & go freely as they please to stockpile more food, water, guns, ammunition and lord
know what else, thus insuring that the "standoff" will continue indefinitely.
5) to travel into the nearby town of Burns to terrorize local residents while armed-to-the-teeth.

I know there's more, but this is just for starters. Don't try to tell me "they're not getting anything
out of this"... that's just not the case.

some are already beginning to boil over in their outrage. this could erupt into outraged citizens acting on their own against the terrorists. i really hope the feds take action before things escalate to this level - because it will. just a matter of time and the fed waiting game will then work against the people of burns and oregon.

Even here in PA, this does not give me any confidence in the federal government to protect us from these militia.

We have at least four stars & bars flag waving "patriots" in our local community, too. They were flying for months, but were taken down when the Christmas decorations went up. Waiting to see if they are put back up after the Christmas decorations come down.

Kate Brown criticizes federal response to 'unlawful occupation,' wants funding to help pay costs.
Denis C. Theriault | The Oregonian/OregonLive January 20, 2016

Gov. Kate Brown on Wednesday had harsh words for the federal government's handling of a 19-day occupation at the Malheur National Wildfire Refuge — calling the response too slow and saying it's left neighbors in Harney County lacking as tensions worsen.

Brown, speaking at a news conference where she also laid out her 2016 policy agenda, also said Oregon officials should "scrub" the state's budget next month to help offset the costs of the standoff. She put those ongoing expenses at $100,000 a week, with even more money spent during the first week of the standoff.

"This situation is absolutely intolerable and it must be resolved immediately," Brown said, saying she'll continue to press her case with the White House and FBI and also seek federal reimbursements. ................

It's unnerving that this is allowed to go on (as it was in 2014.) There needs to be real consequences for their actions. I applaud the two arrests already made. I am saddened that a foster family was broken apart, but it clearly needed to happen. More things still need to happen. I don't understand why the crashed driver wasn't arrested. The whole thing is wearing thin. By the same token, I understand that it's delicate work. If this is going to be as bloodless an operation as possible then they probably need time.

I feel sorry for the community that is being impacted over this. I hope this comes to an end soon.
