Obama Calls Flint Water Crisis 'Inexplicable And Inexcusable'

Last edited Thu Jan 21, 2016, 11:08 AM - Edit history (6)

Source: Huffington Post

President Barack Obama on Wednesday called the ongoing municipal water crisis in Flint, Michigan, "inexplicable and inexcusable" and said government "broke down" in its responsibility to protect public health.

Obama, during an interview in Detroit with CBS set to air later this week, said he understands why Flint residents are outraged. The city's water supply has been contaminated with lead and other pollutants for months after a state-approved plan to save money by switching to corrosive Flint River water from the Detroit municipal system.

Obama, in an interview set to air on CBS Sunday Morning, told host Lee Cowan that government in Michigan "broke down" in its responsibility to protect public health and safety.

"What is inexplicable and inexcusable is once people figured out that there was a problem there, and that there was lead in the water, the notion that immediately families weren't notified, things weren't shut down," Obama said. "That shouldn't happen anywhere."

I hope that Snyder ends up in jail. A hope and...... (I think back to this)....

On the morning of the Watergate Break In, and as we were beginning to hear about it, I thought, maybe Nixon had something to do with it..Oh that couldn't be. Also, I remember vividly, that as John Dean spoke about what was going on, at the hearings implicating Halderman and Erlichman and Nixon by default, through conversations that he, Dean, participated in...I remember thinking as Dean spoke..wouldn't it be something if there was a recording of all of that ...to prove that Dean was telling the truth..now I know I was not the only one thinking that, so I was not alone, but that is what I thought
..................and there turned out to be such a recording............unknown to almost everyone..........

so, the emails and all the evidence of the Snyder cover - up, may have been erased, and destroyed. we understand that now

but..if there is one honest person in that administration, just one, maybe two. (like deep throat).. then, who will the people of Michigan believe? As the horror unfolds, who will most believe.? the politician in charge, or the testifier against the politician in charge..

Also, I do believe that the word inexplicable was used on purpose. We all know it can be easily explained, but proof of Snyder's involvement and direct responsibility does not exist yet. Obama, by using the word, points to Snyder, and says we need more proof that you did it, but we will get you when it comes out...inexplicable..we need clear evidence and proof for the truth to be known.

Later...then after that proof, the explanation will be clear.. we will call you the crook and poisoner that you are.. then, we will point to you. and.... and then everyone will understand, who, what, where, how and why.

2nd possible explanation for the the use of the word inexplicable:...

.....How do you explain the selfishness and greed of the Republicans that did this? How selfish and evil can they be that they would knowingly poison a cities water supply ? or...after some evidence is presented that the supply is quite dangerous..that they (the Republican leaders) knowingly did nothing?

Is there one honest person in that administration who knows and willing to testify?

It's a feature of rethug governing.
Steal from and if you can get away with it, kill the poor and minorities for their own personal enrichment.

It seems that the prosecution against Snyder will take some time. The proof will come, then Obama will publically go after Snyder and the rest of the crowd. While Obama and we know who is responsible, can he publicly implicate the crooks now? When is the best time for that? And how will that be done?..Remember, Obama is the chess player and when he goes after them publically, it will be something to remember..that is what I believe..The use of the word..inexplicable..that is start...He knows it can be explained, but does not start the battle against Snyder and his crooks now...He is waiting. He knows, and we know, but the attack on a sitting governor of a state must wait for more proof..(that is what I believe)

I sure hope Snyder pays for this.

Are there any honest Republicans in Michigan willing to take a stand against him?

This was not an accident, it is the direct result of how the rich corporatist want to run things. We're just taking up space in their world and they're rather we weren't here doing that and will support anyone who will work for them to rectify what they want down deep inside.

4. You are correct, the "rich corporatist" is the killer..

but..we need solid proof to put him/or them..in jail.. A chain of command on this one. It will take time, but I believe they will be totally exposed. Why? ..too much poisoning of human life. A few brave Republicans may come forward..and help convict the poisoners in charge. At least that is my hope.

It's quite explicable, though, and IMO is the necessary consequence of corporatism and unregulated capitalism. It's an infection that seeps into all sorts of seemingly-unrelated areas, but can be summarized in one phrase: nothing matters but the bottom line.

If Mr Obama really finds this event "inexplicable," and that is not just a rhetorical flourish, then he is not paying attention.

Also, there might be another meaning...How do you explain the selfishness and greed of the Republicans that did this?

perhaps that is what Obama was meaning..

9. Snyder tried blaming the federal government
Thu Jan 21, 2016, 10:54 AM
Jan 2016

In his state of the state speech. The feds had no responsibility in this. The Republican administration in MI is 100% responsible. They are attempting to muddy the waters by blaming federal and local officials. The Governor replaced the local government from the mayor on down with an "emergency financial manager". The Republicans did the water switch to save money, and denied all the evidence that showed elevated lead levels. They even went to the media to attack the credibility of the doctors and scientists who were leading the fight to get exposure to this problem. Typical Republican response.

I tried to watch the State of the State but could not abide more than a few minutes of his lies. A friend told me that the state stream went down at the time he was talking about fixing failing infrastructure. Sweet irony. Willfully covering up poisoning is new gubernatorial ground, to my knowledge. Negligent homicide or straight-up murder? One can dream.

He has sunken to new lows. This is worse than anything I can remember in my lifetime. I hope criminal charges apply. But the attorney general is his buddy and fellow right wing nut job. He is currently defending the state against a lawsuit bright by the poisoned residents of Flint. Now he claims he will get to the bottom of it. Looks like he already chose his side. Only republicans in charge in Michigan, and look what happens.

12. Yes. It takes just as delberate an act of the will to ignore an unambiguous problem,

as it does to remedy it.

No excuse is possible. Only one word can epitomise it to decent, sane people : 'surreal'.

It constituted a surreally-deliberate dereliction of a simple duty.

I sure hope the whole truth comes out..like Nixon, Like Bush..saying..."We do not torture" and so many more..

You are damn right ..he took a "...deliberate ...act of will to ignore an unambiguous problem.."
