National media call Nevada GOP caucus for Trump
Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal
Heavy turnout was reported at numerous Republican caucus sites in the Las Vegas area Tuesday night.
A site leader at Green Valley High School said he had been optimistic he would get out by 9 or 10 p.m., but not anymore. The line to get into the building to vote was wrapped around the school in Henderson.
Jeremy Hughes, a Nevada strategist for presidential candidate Marco Rubio, said he was hearing about extensive problems at caucus sites across the state.
At his own caucus site in Clark County, he said volunteers were checking in voters to caucus without checking their IDs, including one member of the Rubio team. Hughes said he reported the violations to Sue Lowden, the former chairwoman of the Nevada Republican Party who happened to be at that caucus site, and she reprimanded the woman.

(30,099 posts)With the controversial businessman the clear front-runner heading into Nevada and next weeks Super Tuesday contests, theres an emerging consensus that the odds of dislodging him are growing longer by the day. Whispered fears that Trump could become the Republican nominee have given way to a din of resigned conventional wisdom with top party officials and strategists openly wondering what the path to defeating him will be.
If anyone else in this field had gone second-first-first in the first three contests, we would all be saying that its over, said Mike DuHaime, a former Republican National Committee political director who guided Chris Christies presidential bid.
I think its uphill, and Washington underestimates how uphill it is and thats because theyve persistently underestimated Trump, said former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who sought the Republican nomination in 2012. If he wins Nevada, Gingrich added, What is it thats supposed to stop him?

(5,402 posts)He will take Clinton to the cleaners. The only one who has the grace to stand opposite Trump is Bernie Sanders. Clinton is too close to Trump on conservative ideology and too closely tied to the wealthy cesspool from which Trump crawled.
Sanders can withstand Trump's bluster because he has the people who care about this country standing behind him.

(30,099 posts)low trustworthy factor, how she polled so poorly
with Independents too..that made me pause.
She will have a challenge with Rubio, Trump will be merciless and
if you look at how he won Nevada, he could take her in the GE.
I did not think that was possible before.
The establishment wants Rubio, but if they are not careful the
Trump supporters may not be loyal to them and I'm not convinced
he can be stopped at this point.

(5,402 posts)The defeatist attitude that we are helpless against the money is at odds with the origin story of this nation, and the lessons we learned from the example of Martin Luther King. If there is one thing we do know is that people with vision are more powerful than wealthy elites.
When you say, "That's just the simple truth" what you mean is, "I accept my place as a second class citizen".
Others, however, refuse to present our souls on a platter upon which wealthy vampires would feast.
We raise our hand above our heads, clench our fingers around hope as if it were a precious stone, and tell those who would keep us small,
"You cannot have my dignity, and you cannot blind me to this vision of hope."

(3,261 posts)It may change with future contests but if Trump continues to cross the 40% threshold, it's clear he's getting voters from supporters of establishment candidates who've dropped out. I used to think Cruz would benefit the most after Carson dropped out but, after SC, it is clear Trump would get a good chunk of those voters, too. Trump is going to be the GOP nominee.

(1,238 posts)Too late to stop him, the anti-trump vote is split too much and he's approaching 50% support before Super Tuesday. After Super Tuesday he'll have an almost insurmountable lead.

(1,238 posts)No way a Hispanic wins versus Trump if there were a two way race with a xenophobic conservative electorate and the focus on immigration. If he gets close Trump will hang Rubios immigration reform vote around his neck.
3 wins in a row and probably a rout on Super Tuesday means this is done, especially since Cruz' ego is too big for him to drop out which means the non Trump vote will keep splitting.

At least in the primary, he is the first presidential candidate who is literally gaffe proof, because there is NOTHING he can say that is too much for the loons who are behind him.

(10,098 posts)I think a huge part of his attraction is his racism, and that does not make me feel real great. He has yet had to explain any specifics on anything about how he is going to make America great again. I am glad others are happy about it and certainly hope he doesn't get elected.

(1,574 posts)It's disturbing that someone in this the late century can do so well with a campaign fueled by hate and bigotry. Not solid facts or legislative ideas. One would think this is the 1950s and not the 21st century.

(10,778 posts)If you watch what he says and how it affects his numbers, it's all about bigotry and scapegoating. His supporters admit that they love that he is not "politically correct," which just means that they love how he is making bigotry acceptable again.

(1,306 posts)instead of a field of 6 or 7 nit-wits, I'm not so sure Trump would be the winner.
He is winning by plurality, usually in the 35% range, and a far cry from
a convincing 50% or more voter support. The problem remains that, if
all of the deadwood dropped out of the race, leaving the "strongest"
candidate to oppose Trump, who would be the viable candidate? They are
all horrible in their own ways.
Those 35% who vote for Trump are the angriest, for sure, and the most
gullible voters in the GOP primaries. What about the other 65% ?
I saw a scroll on CNN that cited 58% of GOP caucus voters in Nevada were
"angry at the government" (because they have been brainwashed to be
angry, paranoid voter-bots by the very people who run "the gubmint".) Anger
is the motivating factor. It is no wonder that the nasty, angry, bilious jerk
is getting more votes than the others.
