Reuters on three man race: Trump 49, Cruz 26, Rubio 21 with 3 days to go

Source: Hotair

The dust is still settling from Thursday night’s rowdy debate, but if it’s having any effect on the frontrunner thus far, Reuters’ five day rolling sample isn’t finding it. And as the numbers continue to stack up with only three days to go until the big event on Tuesday, the sense of panic among the establishment is spreading.

U.S. Republicans in Washington are coming to grips with what many of them not long ago considered an unimaginable reality: Donald Trump is likely to be their presidential nominee and standard-bearer.

The prospect of Trump winning the Republican primary had been the stuff of Washington jokes, whispered hallway conversations and eye-rolls, even as he led in public opinion polls for months and dominated debate after debate.

But with the brash billionaire now winning three straight contests in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada, denial is giving way to a mostly gloomy acceptance that he may have too much momentum to be stopped, especially if wins big in key Southern primaries next week that look favorable to him.

And he might have made a halfway decent cyborg, had the Miami exile mafia not gotten their dirty fingers on him.

Cruz truly may not be eligible. Of course, its ridiculous to say Marco is not eligible. But there is a chance the Supreme Court could rule Cruz is not a natural born citizen, although I think its unlikely. But it is very possible. There are sound legal arguments to be made that he is not eligible.

American law says if you are born of a citizen then you are a natural born citizen no matter where in the world you are born. The reason this law was passed is that it would be extremely unfair to American military, diplomats, tourists and business people who might have children outside the U.S. The law is settled and the SC said so in Rogers v. Bellei (1971).

but it will be the Supreme Court who will finally decide it because it will be challenged on some very justifiable legal arguments. I agree, I think if he was not eligible, it would have already been challenged, but that doesn't mean the Supreme Court will see it that way. Some consider him to be a naturalized citizen by birth, but not natural born. His situation is different than John McCain in which no one seriously questioned McCain's eligibility, and he was born in Panama. My point is, this is not some crazy birther issue, there are legitimate legal issues in which the Supreme Court will have a role.

bitter and low-down and ugly. The GOP is like that anyway, of course, but this primary season, they're really outdoing themselves.

Trump seems to be in the catbird seat at the moment. If he remains the frontrunner Cruz and Rubio will get even nastier than they are already. Trump will become more defensive and absurd that he is already.

It's looking like a real food fight for Cleveland this summer.

I fully expect a very nasty floor fight in Cleveland. I doubt he will get the nomination.
