Sanders packs Breslin Center with turn out to vote message
Source: Lansing State Journal
EAST LANSING - Delegate counts and Super Tuesday results did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the more than 10,000 people who came to see Sen. Bernie Sanders speak at Michigan State University's Breslin Center Wednesday evening.
Crowds composed primarily of young adults listened as Sanders leaned heavily on his messages of social and economic equality during his hour-long speech.
People out there dont want you to vote or to participate in the political process because they want to make all the decisions for you, Sanders said. They love the idea that in the last winter election in 2014, 63 percent of the American people did not vote.

Michigan State University's BRESLIN CENTER, where over 10,000 people showed up in the cold to come see the next President.
I just watched Bernie give a magnificent speech, in which he:
1. Called for the RESIGNATION OF MICHIGAN GOVERNOR RICK SNYDER over the Flint Lead Scandal, the Aramark prison food scandal, the Veterans Health Care scandal, and all the other offenses against human beings.
2. Outlined a vision of a nation in positive growth, with equality for all, with hope and optimism.
3. Told the audience that "LOVE TRUMPS HATE".
God that was great.
I LOVE Bernie.
He's going to make a great President.
Ten THOUSAND people inside Breslin Center to listen to Bernie:
And I'm about 1,000th in line outside.

(185 posts)You can't pass legislation thru a congress that doesn't support you on either side.
He, like trump , will reap the same as trump.
Presidents are beggers for legislation . They beg on the behalf of the American people.
Republicans will mince him, he's no Pres. Obama.
Democrats have to shun him, lest they self label themselves with "socialist" and the stain will never wash off.

(5,927 posts)You betcha.
Once they complete their investigations into Vince Foster, Whitewater, Benghazi, emails, and have a few votes on impeachment they'll support everything she does. The Republicans absolutely adore and respect Hillary...

(5,927 posts)Is it fair? Is it honest? Of course not. It's bullshit. Just like the fantasy that HRC will have less trouble than Bernie getting things done.
For my part, it's not the lies from the right that turn me off to her. It's the facts from the left.

(2,379 posts)How might the end result change if we had a President who enlisted all the people who voted for him to contact their representatives and MAKE them represent the wishes of their constituents and what if the people actually DID just that? Perhaps those representatives might get a clue that their re-election might not be as certain when the next election rolls around if people are willing to keep the pressure on them NOT during an election cycle.
If Sanders were elected President because of those issues he campaigned on and he went back to all the people who supported him and told them to burn up the phone lines, show up in person, and fill up their representatives' email boxes, you don't think they'd do it?
What your post assumes is what has happened in the past still happens in the future.
Think again.
And if THIS congress doesn't pass this legislation and Bernie's supporters see him trying to follow through on his promises but getting blocked left and right ... then we start building a congress that WILL introduce and pass that legislation. The revolution doesn't end with this election.

CONGRESS is the problem, Voters are the Problem.

(17,652 posts)Republicans will try to 'mince' either he or Hillary, as they have our President. He's no President Obama, he's himself. He has his own strengths after 16 years in the House and a term and a half in the Senate, preceded by serving as Mayor for repeated terms.
Democrats do not have to care about some bullshit label, and there is no stain to wash.
He was an independant and he is tough as hell. He sees things the way they are and he tells the truth.
As to whether he can get anything through congress, it depends on who'se in there. You may have noticed the Republicans are in an existential crisis. Their center is fragile. Bernie's is solid iron.
With the 24 senate seats up for election and all of the house, Bernie could end up with two houses of Congress in his party. He will most assuredly not start the conversation conceding the center.
Finally, Bernie is nothing like Donald tRump, remotely.
But we shall see!
Welcome to DU.

(3,186 posts)He was here in Maine doing a large rally which began at 1pm yesterday. So he then travels to Michigan and does a giant rally there. All of this after (probably) a very late night waiting for Super Tuesday returns.
I'm much younger than him, but it exhausts me to even think of a schedule like that. I hope that Jane and everyone else around him are making his burden as light as possible. I'm sure they probably are. Still, it's amazing that he is able to do all of that no matter how much help he gets!
Go Bernie!!!
Thanks for the great pics along with the OP article, btw.

On edit: Sec. Clinton has more total votes than any other candidate in either party on Super Tuesday. Maybe her turnout isn't the problem.

(1,723 posts)I am new in my Colorado neighborhood, but I was told that our precinct often has a half dozen democrats show up for the caucus. On Tuesday there were 53, 32 for Bernie and 21 for Hillary. And they were all ages. My impression was that Bernie supporters were more enthusiastic.
