Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has widened her lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to 14 percentage points, according to an Ipsos/Reuters national poll released Thursday.
The poll showed support for Clinton at 54 percent, while Sanders stood at 40 percent. This is a wider lead for Clinton than in the Ipsos/Reuters poll conducted in mid-February, which showed her leading Sanders 53 percent to 42 percent. This result comes in the wake of a series of major victories for Clinton in state primaries.
TPMs PollTracker Average shows Clinton at 53.8 percent and Sanders at 36.4 percent.
The Ipsos/Reuters poll was carried out from Feb. 27-March 2. The poll surveyed 619 likely Democratic voters online with a margin of error of 4.3 percentage points.

So far 4M people have voted for @HillaryClinton. Nearly 1.5M more than for @BernieSanders. That's a lot of establishment! #ImWithHer

(700 posts)I hope you have all the Bernie supporters on ignore because theyll be here in no time telling us why this poll is invalid unless it has Grandpa Bernie in the lead!!!
Less than 620 people polled, in an online poll, and you think it should be taken seriously!
Please, wash the Hillary from your blinders.

I will enjoy saying the words Madam President very much - thanks. Now go back to fantasyland where Bernie is winning all the delegates and ahead 30 points in the polls.

(613 posts)Only 619 respondents, and online!
Get back when you have real poll, with a decent size, that wasn't done online. Then there will be something to report.

Go, Hillary! We love you!

(613 posts)What is your "problably" based on?
It certainly is not any sort of polling information or fact.
Must be blind partisan wishful thinking.
Right now, these are the facts. Clinton has 595 delegates, Sanders 405, and there are thousands yet to be counted. What's more, most of the states that have already had their primaries were expected to be wins for Clinton, and are in the deep south, where she is expected to do well. The real proof will be in the weeks to come.
I'm not saying Clinton won't win, but I am definitely saying this poll is not reliable, not based on a solid polling sample, and does not accurately reflect the current sympathies of Democratic voters.

(22,651 posts)And sit down with Bernie work together on her policies. She will need his support & endorsement to win strongly against the republicans. Now is the time for them both to state the 2nd place in primary will be VP.

National Polls are MEANINGLESS. They are a tool of the media. They are currency to them.
They don't mean anything in a primary race.
Now the state by state polls that show the lions share of upcoming delegates will get pledged to hillary, now those do mean something.

(348 posts)have become too liberal to stay a Democrat. I can not be with a party that has no desire to end the plutocracy. Heck they appear to be 1000% supporting it.
I can't be a green - they are too inflexible for me. I don't know what I am.... an Occupier? That's the movement I believe in. Ending the 1% control of us and standing for everything that is good. I'm against the DP. I'm pro immigrants. I'm for medicare for all. I guess I made a mistake in thinking other Dems were following a liberal belief system too. What I've discovered on this site is about 1/2 are like I am, and then a whole lot are pro killing anyone, and massively pro ogliarchy - while not one of them tells you why. I don't understand it.
I'm happy to leave. Someone please point me to a liberal chat site? I used to be on common dreams - and I was there for years, but then the owners of the site stated taking money from a pro Israel group and we could really tell. During the bombings a few years back we weren't allowed to speak against Israels atrocities. What is this site? Bought out directly by the DNC who is bought out by the ogliarchs? I don't understand at all what is going on here. I'm asking because I don't know and I will happily leave if you guys can point me on my way to a liberal democratic site. If it supports the plutocracy through Hillary it won't be up to my standards as a liberal democratic site.

(332 posts)They are new and are asking for money to keep the site up. Let's hope it keeps going. This place is breaking my heart. We are up for some changes here in the near future that might be a deal breaker for me. We'll see.

I went there and nearly got through registration then is said "We also insist that You must support Senator Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary. In other words, you must be Feeling The Bern!! "
I am absolutely a Bernie Supporter and donated to his campaign 3 times. But I won't be joining a site that forces everyone to vote their way or you get banned. That is why I'm looking for an alternative to go to instead of DU.

(348 posts)but I'm getting a strong suspicion I have actually walked into the DNC.
I've seen Hillary supporters here assure each other that they just have to wait a little longer then they will to ban anyone speaking against the DNC it or it's candidate Hillary as soon as (if) she is their nomination. They said it's against the board rules to not support the DNC and apparently propose to tell people who they have to vote for to be on this site.
I saw a tag from a user on this site that said "To find out who rules over you simply find out who you are not allowed to critize. - Voltair"
I'll stick with liberal sites against the plutocracy - and not join the DNC specifically(right down to not being allowed to criticism and having to vote their way no matter what,) thanks.

(1,178 posts)If we lived in a truly representative democracy, this would be of interest. However, since we have this semi-democratic system of selecting party candidates on a state-by-state basis, and then determining the national winner based on the Electoral College, this statistic has no meaning. A statistic that has more impact would be the polls in each remaining state.

(8,698 posts)Sanders has over-performed in every primary and caucus so far. In polling average leading up to the MA primary HRC was ahead, she won by 1.4% and pulled less votes than any contested primary in 20 years.
In states Sanders has won he has either broken or come close to primary records by a winning candidate in a contested primary or caucus.
Outside of VA, he has won every state you would need to win in a GE with a mix of the type of voter demographics you have to have to win in GE, playing strongerly with voters 30 or younger and Independents in those states and doing well with Hispanics in key states like CO.
That is how you win national elections, without it you will lose those key states and lose the GE.
