WASHINGTON (Reuters) - House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan vowed on Thursday to speak out against Republican presidential campaign rhetoric that could mislead voters about the party and its conservative principles, but stopped short of criticizing front-runner Donald Trump directly.
On a day when his former presidential running mate Mitt Romney denounced Trump, Ryan said he "laughed out loud" this week when Trump warned that the speaker could pay a big price for not getting along with him if he becomes the party nominee.
"Here's what I can control. If I see episodes where conservatism is being disfigured, if I see comments that mislead the people as to who we are as Republicans, Im going to speak out on those," said Ryan.
The speaker has already admonished Trump for failing to disavow support from Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.

(7,299 posts)We warned them for years about what their vitriolic rhetoric was doing. They ignored us. Now they find themselves drowning in a cesspool of their own s**t. Good on 'em.

(12,882 posts)in power, I'd be laughing my ass off at their toilet bowl whirlpool. What's going on IS amusing, but it's also scary since they have a hand on SO MUCH of this country. And there's no telling what sort of shit they'll pull as their "party" performs a Hindenburg maneuver.
I know, a lot of people here seem to be rejoicing like it is the end of the party. Far from it, they control so many statehouses and I can't believe all the states that used to be solidly Democratic that have republican governors.
