Jerry Brown Calls Trump Wall Proposal ‘Absolutely Preposterous’
Source: Bloomberg
It would create such tension with our closest neighbor that, probably, a dumber idea I cant imagine, Brown said Thursday in an interview in Bloomberg Newss San Francisco bureau. Brown, who ran for president himself three times, also said hes not particularly interested in a vice-presidential nomination should he be approached by the eventual Democratic nominee. He isnt supporting any of the current candidates for president and said all of them need to work harder to gain the backing of the American people.
We have a crisis of governance in the face of an increasingly difficult and dangerous world, and people are upset, Brown said. The campaigns and the candidacies are not all that inspiring. Brown, 77, is presiding over the worlds seventh-largest global economy, driven by technology companies including Facebook Inc. and Apple Inc. and agricultural and manufacturing industries that lead the U.S. Since taking office in 2011, the fourth-term governor has steered the state from repeated budget deficits to surpluses. <snip>
With regard to terrorism, Brown said, the threat of nuclear attacks has been missing from the debate. The nuclear materials of the world are so widespread and would be so devastating if they were brought to New York or Washington or any other state, he said. We have to be prepared to de-fang the terrorists.

(1,615 posts)otherwise, jerry brown has done a lot of good in the world, and i liked to hear what he had to say.
i think he underestimates the appeal of trump's rhetoric in abandoned manufacturing towns, where people are married to their sense of place and will not leave. not everywhere can be california.

I love Jerry...he has been the most stable Govenor that we've had in over 30 years.
And America...if you want to see what horrible would be in a President, just look at the mess that Schwartzenegger made but magnify it by 1,000.

(23,598 posts)I understand the argument that a wall along the border would increase tension with Mexico. At the same time, I think that many voters may not care much about that. I think it's most likely that such a wall could be built without major political mobilization against it in the US.
