Nearly three years after she survived a serious injury in the Boston Marathon bombing, college student Victoria McGrath has died in Dubai, the victim of a car crash that also killed three others including a classmate of McGrath's from Northeastern University.
Both McGrath, 23, and her classmate Priscilla Perez Torres, 23, were set to graduate this spring. The close friends had been traveling together in Dubai.
....
In 2013, McGrath was in one of the images that became symbolic of the Boston attacks when firefighter Jimmy Plourde was photographed carrying her to get medical attention; on her left leg is a tourniquet that witness Bruce Mendelsohn had applied.
As the news of McGrath's death spread Monday, Mendelsohn told the Boston Herald, "I will miss her like a hole in my soul and as a representation of something good that we all did."

(348 posts)Victoria McGrath, a young woman who survived the deadly Boston Marathon bombings, died Sunday in a fiery Ferrari crash in Dubai that also killed her friend, a Canadian boxer and his cousin.
The four victims, identified as 23-year-old McGrath, Priscilla Perez Torres, Toronto fighter Cody Nixon and James Portuondo, were killed in a 12:40 a.m. crash when the sunshine yellow Ferrari 458 Spider slammed into a pole hours after Nixon boasted of his speedster rental in a haunting Instagram post.
Just landed into Dubai picked up the Ferrari! Dont worry I wont speed , he wrote in the caption.

Witnesses at the crash scene said the car was driving no slower than 90mph. Police are still waiting to confirm the actual speed.

(57,425 posts)Even were we to stipulate that the driver was not impaired by alcohol or another substance, his ability to operate the car with the passenger compartment so jammed would be compromised, I'd imagine.
An investigation will reveal details at some future date.

(15,882 posts)Most outlive it when they are. but sometimes they hit that perfect storm. What a waste.
I wonder if it was his first time with such a performance machine. Not the time to have others draped around your neck, and then, likely, showing off.
Rest in Peace.

There's nothing left of that car. It's a shredded hull. And not even a complete hull at that.
