He's only the most obviously rancorous of the GOP in this race. Cruz, Rubio, or Kasich would all be complete disasters as well. In fact, I firmly believe that Cruz would be -far- more damaging to... well... everything than Trump.

The whole GOP is just an out of control clown car. Just because a couple of them are wearing slightly less clown makeup doesn't mean they're not still clowns.

How many down-ticket elections are going to go to GOP candidates that seem reasonable, only in contrast to the radically right-wing ticket in the presidential primary?

Bernie vs. Hillary is all this board seems to be able to focus on right now, but let's look at the bigger picture here. The mass media coverage of Trump basically means that downticket nutjobs now believe they can say anything to get media attention, and the more attention they get, the more votes they get. And they're -not wrong- about that.

I like my elections good and boring. No screaming, no negative campaigns, no vitriol, no penis size comparisons on the debate stage. That is the sign of a fully-working electoral system. What's happening now is not just Trump being an ass, it's a lot of things all happening at once. It's corporate money infecting elections. It's the idea (driven by corporate controlled media and the Tea Party) that a tiny government is what they're for, and is a good thing. It's the idea (again driven by corporate interests) that career politicians are uniquely unsuited for politics. It's the tribalism of "If my candidate doesn't get in, I'm not voting for yours." It's negative campaigning and tearing down the opponent instead of building your candidate up.

The wheels are coming off, and on the right, the GOP has no one to blame but themselves. In the larger context, the corporate media has been feeding us damaging bullshit for decades, and now it is widely believed as "common sense" that supply side economics works, and raising taxes on the top 1% is "punishment for success."

Sorry, that turned into a rant. I'll cut myself off there.
