Racist Voters Cost Trump Two Illinois Delegates with ‘Foreign’ Sounding Names

Racist voters may have cost Donald Trump at least two delegates in Illinois. The state uses a complicated system to choose its delegates, who are awarded when voters select a candidate and then choose delegates representing them on the ballot. Trump won the Illinois GOP primary, but rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich picked up a couple of delegates at the Republican National Convention that the frontrunner should have won but didnt.
David Wasserman, of Cook Political Report, first noticed that two Trump delegates with South Asian names ran far behind delegates for his rivals. In the 6th Congressional District outside Chicago, two Trump delegates named Paul Minch and Barbara Kois won with more than 35,000 votes each.
A third Trump delegate candidate, Nabi Fakroddin, received just 30,639 votes which allowed Pat Brady, a Kasich delegate and former state party chairman, to move past him and take the RNC slot. In the 13th District, a Trump delegate Doug Hartmann won nearly 32,000 votes and two Cruz delegates won nearly 31,000 votes to claim the next two slots.
Raja Sadia, a Trump delegate, garnered just over 24,000 votes. Wasserman also noted that a Trump delegate with a black-sounding name received significantly fewer votes than two candidates named James Devors and Rita Gaus. Taneequa Tolbert will attend the RNC, but she received about 1,300 fewer votes than Devors and about 800 votes fewer than Gaus.

(101,337 posts)Ignoring what people may or may not have thought about the names, here are the votes for District 13:
Name Party Votes Vote %
Hartmann/Trump, Doug GOP 31,937 12%
Kammer/Cruz, James GOP 30,588 12%
Strang/Cruz, Mark GOP 30,341 12%
Kammer/Cruz, Nicholas GOP 28,608 11%
Gauen/Trump, Toni GOP 28,337 11%
Sadiq/Trump, Raja GOP 24,303 9%
total Trump: 84,577
total Cruz: 89,537
So if the votes for each candidate's delegates have been spread evenly, Cruz would have got all 3, and Trump none. By having more support for 'Hartmann', Trump got 1 seat. And notice the Cruz delegate candidates included 2 Kammers - 1 was selected, 1 wasn't.
If these delegates really are unknowns, and the process asks voters to pick just one as their 'favorite' for that candidate, you'll get loads of random fluctuations. Or they are known to some voters, in which case they may have genuine reasons for putting one above another.
On edit:
I see that this system allowed them to vote for up to 3 delegates. In that case, you would have expected the 3 possible delegates allied to each candidate to get the same - unless voters really did decide to take a particular disliking to some of them (racism might explain Sadiq loss of votes, but what did Nicholas Kammer do to get nearly 2,000 fewer votes than James Kammer?). Or there are voters who like splitting their vote.

And yes, Trump deserves to be screwed by his own supporters' racism.

Delegates, that's the least of my worries, have you noticed I am being hacked by those hackers who call themselves ANONYMOUS. They are inserting very bad words directed at me . They have declared war on me. Quite frankly big dog they are trying to screw me .
I need your help and help from all those that will enlist to help out.
I am asking that to do everything possible to keep those hackers away from my one of a kind campaign golf cart.
I just can't bare to see it defiled .
I just know they are going to try here too.
