Committee advances bill letting faith-based foster groups deny same-sex couples; senator predicts 'a

By Martha Stoddard

LINCOLN — Tears threatened and anger flared Friday as a legislative committee advanced a bill to protect faith-based foster care agencies from being penalized for refusing to work with same-sex couples.

The Judiciary Committee voted 5-3 to send an amended version of Legislative Bill 975 to the full Legislature.

After the vote, State Sen. Les Seiler of Hastings, the committee chairman, predicted there would be “a war” when the measure comes up for floor debate.

But he said it would be up to Speaker of the Legislature Galen Hadley of Kearney to decide when, or whether, to schedule debate on the bill.

If they are faith based they should be receiving NO government funding.. Local.. State.. Or Federal. If they receive government funding (and I'd be very surprised if they don't), challenge their claim to faith based discrimination based on their funding.

If they have not filed and received faith based tax exempt status, then likewise challenge through the courts.
