Trump wins over AIPAC audience with strong pro-Israel stance

Source: Haaretz

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was met with an enthusiastic reception in the AIPAC conference in Washington on Monday, as he took a strong pro-Israel stance, blasting everyone from President Obama and the Palestinians to the UN and Iran.

"President Barack Obama is the worst thing to happen to Israel," the Republican frontrunner told the audience at the Verizon Center, castigating the U.S. president and his former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for "pressuring our friends and rewarding our enemies."
...
Trump delivered broadsides against his likely rival in the general election, Hillary Clinton, calling her a “total disaster” and blaming her for last year’s Iran nuclear deal. The line earned laughter and applause, although Clinton’s speech, earlier in the day, was well received.

Trump’s biggest applause line was when he began a sentence, “President Obama, in his final year – yay!”

AIPAC is part of the Dick Cheney wing of American politics. Trump is definitely their kind of guy.

1. Donald Trump’s AIPAC Speech Gets Muted Response
Mon Mar 21, 2016, 09:39 PM
Mar 2016

Seeking to calm worries about his scant foreign policy credentials, Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump used his turn before the United States’ largest pro-Israel group to offer his view for the Middle East. He did himself few favors, often appearing to contradict himself and at times sounding just like the politicians he lambastes.

Trump earned a muted response from the bipartisan audience at the annual confab of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. He delivered a carefully prepared speech off a teleprompter, breaking with a past promise to never use the devices. After opening with a pledge not to “pander” to the crowd, Trump did just that, dramatically altering his tone and policy toward Israel from what he has been espousing on the campaign trail.

http://time.com/4267086/donald-trump-aipac-speech-israel/

AIPAC has members across a wide spectrum of American politics. Some liked Trump, others not so much.

From the Time article:

Much-publicized efforts by a group of Rabbis to stage a public walk out on Trump’s address appeared to have fizzled, but his reception was the coolest of the four candidates to address the group. Lines apparently designed to earn applause, received only a tepid response from the crowd on many occasions. And Trump earned a mix of applause and boos when he suggested that the president “may be the worst thing to happen to Israel” and that Clinton was a “total disaster.”

Quite a few Obama and Clinton supporters among the AIPAC crowd who booed the Donald for those ridiculous comments.

AIPAC started out as a bipartisan organization, but it has been corrupted by the right wing Adelson Republicans. It now poisons American Jews, who consider themselves liberal and who have no clue how right wing AIPAC has become. They assume that they are supporting Israel when they really are supporting Netanyahu and the extreme conservatives. When you try to explain this to them, they call you a "self-hating Jew." Sounds rather Trump-like, doesn't it?

there would have been bloodshed I'm sure for that. Bernie is a pure example of when I talk about Israel there is the far right sometimes called Fascists in Israel (yes supposedly there is such a group in Israel) then there's the Left Wing Jews who prefer the two state solution. So far Bibi has gotten more violence in Israel in decades Now my religion (I'm a mix WELS and LCMS) always taught that peace in Israel would come when the world ends... So seeing most Republicans are into material possessions I can see them wanting to keep this pro war thing up.... others hey there is no harm in wanting peace in Israel.. Either way boy does Donald have them hoodwinked. I still don't believe a word he says.. he's pure pander

The word "Democratic" is absent throughout the Israeli Declaration of Independence. However, the declaration states the intention to:

"Ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex: It will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education, and culture; it will safeguard the Holy Places of all religions; and it will be faithful to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations".[3]

and appeals to:

"the Arab inhabitants of the State of Israel to preserve peace and participate in the upbuilding of the State on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its provisional and permanent institutions."[

Basic Law of 1985[edit]

Since no constitution had been passed by 1985, the Supreme Court ruled that the Declaration of Independence document is a guiding principle of Israeli society and its state,[3] the need to legally define the Jewish nature and Democratic character of the State of Israel arose. During the 1984 Knesset elections, religious ideas were brought up that were aimed at canceling the democratic character of Israel, and replacing it with a theocratic Halachic state, and thus in the eleventh Knesset session, the amendment to the Basic Law: the Knesset was passed (to become effective as of the Twelfth Knesset), that stipulated that:

"7A. A candidates list shall not participate in elections to the Knesset, if the goals or actions of the list, expressly or by implication, include one of the following:

(1) negation of the existence of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state;

(2) incitement to racism;

(3) support for armed struggle by a hostile state or a terrorist organization against the State of Israel."[4]

— Basic Law: The Knesset (1985)[4]

Later usage[edit]

Since then the definition of "a Jewish and Democratic State" was used in additional Basic Laws of Israel: Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty and Basic Law: Freedom of Occupation, that were legislated in 1992, and amended in 1994. These laws specifically states that:

"1. The purpose of this Basic Law is to protect human dignity and liberty, in order to establish in a Basic Law the values of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state."[5]

— Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty[5]

"2. The purpose of this Basic Law if to protect freedom of occupation, in order to establish in a Basic Law the values of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state."[6]

— Basic Law: Freedom of Occupation (1994)

There is no "blank check" ability for any Leader.

Clinton and Trump both are perfectly in line with his thinking.

He is Israel, as they have returned him to office with overwhelming margins multiple times.

Israel will learn its hard lessons in the future, when the two-state solution is gone and the US does not have any international credibility when it comes to Israel, as the US is obviously not interested in playing a constructive role in the I/P conflict.
