D.C. Madam's Attorney Says Call Log Bombshell Could Upend 2016 Race
Judges 'are letting people vote blindly,' gagged lawyer says.
By Steven Nelson
March 28, 2016, at 2:55 p.m.
A lawyer who represented the so-called D.C. madam says he has phone records that could influence the outcome of the presidential election, and hes threatening to release one or more names on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court if hes denied a hearing on his right to distribute them.
Montgomery Blair Sibley, the late madam Deborah Palfreys colorful attorney, has been subject to a restraining order since 2007 barring him from releasing the information, which he says includes 815 names, addresses and Social Security numbers of Verizon Wireless customers.
Time is of the essence because people are casting votes in primaries and caucuses, he says. I believe this information is relevant to that political discourse.
Sibley first said the records could be relevant to the presidential race in January, when there were 15 high-profile candidates. Now, just three Republicans and two Democrats remain though Sibley wont say if any are implicated, citing fear of being jailed for contempt.

(491 posts)I would never say never in Washington though. I've been surprised plenty by politicians (and people in general). I saw a list that speculated the least likely to most likely. To my recollection it went:
5) Hillary cause she's a woman (I also think it ignored Bill as a possibility)
4) Trump cause he doesn't need to pay for it
3) Bernie
2) Kasich

Between 1999 and 2003, he was the Director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission, an Associate Deputy Attorney General at the United States Department of Justice, and domestic policy advisor to George W. Bush on the 2000 George W. Bush presidential campaign. He served as Solicitor General of Texas, from 2003 to 2008, appointed by Texas Attorney General, Greg Abbott. He was the first Hispanic, and the longest-serving, Solicitor General in Texas history. From 2004 to 2009, Cruz was also an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, where he taught U.S. Supreme Court litigation.

Then there is Kasich.
Kasich served nine terms as a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Ohio's 12th congressional district from 1983 to 2001.[5] His tenure in the House included 18 years on the House Armed Services Committee and six years as chairman of the House Budget Committee. He was a key figure in the passage of both welfare reform and the Balanced Budget Act of 1997.
He was a commentator on Fox News Channel, hosting Heartland with John Kasich from 2001 to 2007. He also worked as an investment banker, a managing director of Lehman Brothers' Columbus, Ohio, office.[6][7]

Bernie was also in D.C. in the appropriate period, but I don't see him as linked into the sort of network that would have tipped him off about the D.C. madam. Also it is hard for me to imagine Bernie spending the money or the time on something like that. He doesn't even bother to comb his hair some of the time. I don't think he has the ego for visiting a prostitute but I could be wrong.
The entire story could be bogus. May be that not a one of them is on that list but that this is an opportunity to create a stir anyway.

When the Keystone Kop police came in to seize everything [from Palfreys house] they walked by these boxes saying Pamela Martin Associates telephone records, 1996-2006, and they just left them there, Sibley says. So I got my hands on them and released a portion of them.
But about a third of the records were not released, he says. We held back these 5,000, Sibley says. I wanted to have something to negotiate with or surprise people at trial.
Before trial, U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler authorized subpoenas for cellphone companies requesting personal information. Verizon Wireless returned a list containing the names, addresses and Social Security numbers of about 815 people, Sibley says a sizable subset of the 5,000 numbers not initially released.

OTOH, I am scandal-deprived and would like to believe otherwise. And you know whose fault it is, don't you! That No-Drama Obama. I've forgotten the fun of a good D.C. scandal.
One last comment. This is from Ted Cruz:
These smears are completely false, theyre offensive to Heidi and me, theyre offensive to our daughters, and theyre offensive to everyone Donald continues to personally attack,
Now really, look at that statement. A "smear" is "completely false?" Is that not a bit of a redundancy? Or: A completely false smear. Is that not a double negative? So that would mean it's true?
And who cares if they're offensive to Ted, his wife, and his daughters. Duh, Ted. That was the whole idea.
