‘She got caught up in the likes’: Teen accused of live-streaming friend’s rape for attention

An Ohio teenager accused of live-streaming the rape of her 17-year-old friend has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges stemming from the alleged incident in February.
Shes in the habit of filming everything with this app called Periscope, Shamansky acknowledged, according to ABC affiliate WSYX. She does everything possible to contain the situation even to the point of asking while its being filmed to these Periscope followers, What should I do now? What should I do now?'
A judge set Loninas bond at $125,000. Her co-defendant, Raymond Gates, 29, also pleaded not guilty and his bond was set at $300,000, according to CBS News.
The pair has been charged with rape, kidnapping, sexual battery and pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, according to NBC affiliate WCMH-TV. If convicted, each faces up to 40 years in prison.

Good thing they were caught. She and the rapist probably would have teamed up on more victims.

(4,742 posts)This isn't the generation we've raised. Yes there are some nutjobs like this girl out there. But Jeffrey Dahmer was insane before Periscope. As was Charles Manson, John Wayne Gacy, and Ted Bundy.
I just spent all morning at an inner City high school meeting with 30 kids at a career fair. Very profrssional, great questions, passionate about moving forward to a career. No phones or BS.
I hate when I see arguments that at complete generalizations.

Stories like this get shared quickly in the digital age of communication. In the past the rapes happened with an audience in the room. The technology doesn't make rape happen. People just didn't know about it because it wasn't widely reported.
It should be noted that one of the viewers called the police to report it.
