Hillary and Bill Clinton Made $6.7 Million from Speeches in 2015
Source: ABC News
Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, greet supporters after casting their ballots at a polling station during the New York State presidential primaries on April 19, 2016 in Chappaqua, New York.
Hillary and Bill Clinton raked in a combined $6.725 million in paid speeches in 2015, a decrease from the year before, according to a personal financial disclosure form released late Tuesday night.
As a presidential candidate, Clinton has come under fire for paid speeches she gave, particularly to big banks and Wall Street, after leaving the State Department. Her Democratic opponent, Bernie Sanders, and his supporters have called on her to release the transcripts of these speeches, which she has thus far refused to do.
According to the document her campaign released, last year, Clinton gave six paid speeches for a total income of $1.475 million. Her biggest pay day was speech to Ebay on March 3, 2015 for $315,000. Her lowest was to the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce for $150,000. She did not speak to any American banks last year and has not given any paid speeches since announcing her presidential campaign on April 12, 2015.
The document also shows that Bill Clinton gave 22 paid speeches last year for a total of $5.25 million. Of these speeches, 11 of them occurred after his wife became a presidential candidate. Prior to the announcement, the former president raked in $225,000 for a speech to UBS. Following the announcement, he made $250,000 speaking to the private equity firm, Apollo Global Management.
Since Hillary Clinton became a candidate, the couple has drastically scaled back their paid speeches. For example, in 2014, the Clintons made roughly $18 million from roughly 100 paid speeches many of which were to banks.

Tosh.o is pretty good, I'd pay him way more to come speak with me than I would Hillary. Unless I ran a bank and needed the political favors. Then Hillary would be my choice to pay

(10,597 posts)... do those two Senior Citizens belong in the White House? They belong in a Nursing Home, for doG's sake! I know, I know... HRC will will be the titular head of the country, but come on. Why can't people learn when the party's over? They don't need the money. They have a new grandbaby and another on the way. They're addicted to the public eye. They love living in the fish bowl. I have nothing against either of them, personally. I wish them well. But frankly, I have noticed a couple times when Hillary began to look ill. Her face was puffy, she looked like she had gained 10 lbs all of a sudden. Times when Bill had those pregnant pauses, when it seemed he had lost his train of thought, and didn't know what to say next. They should be retiring.

I just wished that everyone with this disease could get the healthcare that she gets. But Bernie is hypothyroid as well but it affects men much differently and not as noticeable as it is in women.

(10,597 posts)I'm hypothyroid too. It's no picnic. And can you imagine what's going to happen when you throw in a ton of stress, like the world on her shoulders?
have Hashimoto's? I agree with the stress adding to the condition. I was finally tested about 6 yrs ago and it was positive. I never had a goiter so was never tested. My thyroid is a shriveled up gland that I will have to take meds the rest of my life (no problem as I feel better). I just wished that I had been checked decades ago instead of when I was 50.
ReRe
(10,597 posts)Never heard of that. Sounds like something Tonto said to the Lone Ranger.
technically Hashimoto's Thyroditis which was discovered/published in 1912 in Germany by the Japanese specialist Hakaru Hashimoto. Here's the link to the wiki page
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashimoto's_thyroiditis
It's an auto immune condition where the thyroid is attacked by antibodies damaging the thyroid grand. If your doctor has never tested you, you should ask for the TPO antibody test to verify that you do not have it. It's been reported that 90% of hypothyroid patients have Hashimoto's.
The best book on the subject (imo) is The Root Cause of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis by Izabella Wentz, PhD. She is a pharmacist patient advocate and has a facebook page and web info that is highly informative and helpful. It's also genetically linked so some patients like me don't get diagnosed until stress, environmental and/or hormonal changes trigger it to develop.
Here's a link to the list of symptoms: ][link:http://hypothyroidmom.com/300-hypothyroidism-symptoms-yes-really/|

(8,291 posts)I hope you get some answers. There are so many doctors that don't know this disease can be so hard to manage and I had to try several thyroid meds before I found one that works for me. Synthroid was the worst. And I don't convert T4 (thyroid meds) to T3 which is important to recovery and remission. I've been in remission for over a year but I still get bloods done every 3-4 months to make sure I'm optimal. Good luck.

Get real about speeches. Bill and Hillary Clinton are two very popular people (despite what the media and some here on DU say) who have accomplished a LOT in their lives and are much in demand on the paid speech circuit.
Please get a clue about who makes money on the speech circuit and why. Or is it OK for GOPers to make lots of money and NOT Dems - or is it just NOT Hillary?
Based on the anti-Hillary rhetoric posted here on DU 24/7, I would surmise that it's just Hillary who inspires the vitriol. It matters not to them that she has been the most admired woman in the world for years. Of course, she is in demand as a speaker and her speaking fees are commensurate with what others receive. Or should they somehow be less because she is a woman?
Please just go ahead and say it out loud because "that" is very much what drives the anti-Hillary drivel and it is more apparent every day.

(15,224 posts)It's not what they make, it's what they DO with what they make. Good for the Clintons.
In my mind, they are taking money away from the (generally Republican) wealthy who will pay for the speeches and using that money for the betterment of the planet. I'm absolutely OKAY with that.

(8,758 posts)That much is obvious. They clearly aren't coasting on celebrity, they would have fizzed out a decade ago. But the fact that they keep being invited to speak and that's very lucrative shows they're saying things people both want to hear and are willing to pay to hear. There is no way Bill Clinton has spent nearly 20 years talking about his good old days in the White House, it just isn't that interesting or useful today.

Building, roads, bridges crumblings while blocking any bills that would revise this trend. Republicans are blocking the passage of a health care package to fight Zita. They hate a healthy nation and people. But only if it doesn't effect their community or state. Then they have their hands open wide for Federal Fundings.

(8,758 posts)The very moment Bill Clinton left office, he hit the speaking trail, same for Hillary. This crops up in the news every so often when someone wants to tear down the Clintons as if they're being hypocritical for cashing in on their celebrity. Its not, the Clintons have always been pretty well off and post Bill Clinton's term, they became rich off speaking so what?
This is what they do for income, mostly.
