SMYRNA, Tenn. (WBAY) – A pilot with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels is dead after a jet crashed Thursday afternoon in Smyrna, Tenn., while practicing for an air show this weekend.

The Navy confirms one person is dead — and that fatality was the pilot. Earlier reports that the pilot ejected and was seen walking around were wrong.

A U.S. official says the pilot did not eject. The official spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
