Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick tweets "reap what you sow' verse after mass shooting at LGBT club

Last edited Sun Jun 12, 2016, 12:03 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: Houston Chronicle

Hours after approximately 50 people were killed at a Florida LGBT nightclub in what federal officials are investigating as an act of terrorism, the Lieutenant Governor of Texas is receiving backlash after tweeting a verse from the Bible.

About 7 a.m. Sunday Dan Patrick tweeted a photo with the words of Galatians 6: 7. The verse reads, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows."

The Twitterverse circled the tweet, commenting that it was inappropriate and insensitive considering the context of the day's events.

They are among many witnessing the horrific reaping from the seeds of hatred they have sown.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/16/opinion/campaign-stops/ted-cruz-and-the-anti-gay-pastor.html?_r=0

"EARLIER this month, in Des Moines, the prominent home-schooling advocate and pastor Kevin Swanson again called for the punishment of homosexuality by death. To be clear, he added that the time for eliminating America’s gay population was “not yet” at hand. We must wait for the nation to embrace the one true religion, he suggested, and gay people must be allowed to repent and convert.

Mr. Swanson proposed this at the National Religious Liberties Conference, an event he organized. Featured speakers included three Republican contenders for the presidency: the former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Senator Ted Cruz of Texas.

Mr. Huckabee later pleaded ignorance. Yet a quick web search will turn up Mr. Swanson’s references to the demonic power of “the homosexual Borg,” the unmitigated evil of Harry Potter and the Disney character Princess Elsa’s lesbian agenda.

Mr. Cruz apparently felt little need to make excuses. He was accompanying another of the featured speakers at the conference: his father, Rafael Cruz — a politically connected pastor who told a 2013 Family Leadership Summit that same-sex marriage was a government plot to destroy the family.

On Saturday, father and son traveled to Bob Jones University in South Carolina to join a Rally for Religious Liberty. Among the speakers was Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, who has called L.G.B.T. activists “hateful” and “pawns” of the devil.".....

After some 25 years of hate radio since they eliminated the fairness doctrine this is what we reap. We are a divided society. The republicqn party has been feeding their base with hate , hate for minorities , hate for poor people hate for anyone who is not a fellow hate filled bigot. They have vgiven safe haven for the bigoted ignorant white male. You may identify this murderer as a minority. They will all scream Muslim terrier, but it's just a white guy who hate gay people because that's what our media preaches.
I'll say that again, hate is what our media preaches. Teaches and shoves down our throats.
Yes we reap what we sow. When we sow the seeds of hate, we get mass murder.

Jerritt, "JP", Lyday. He is a liberal Christian. One of the finest young men I have ever been associated with. I taught with his mother, who is also a liberal Christian. JP is a teacher, and he also is a drummer with the Ft. Worth band, Un Chien. I am so proud of him.

...this isn't a slip or an accidental admission, he's like this all the time. He is an unapologetic asshole. Strike that: assholes don't deserve to be lumped in with the same lot as that scumbag. He proudly represents every hateful characteristic of the prototype self-righteous, ignorant racist, paternalistic, religious zealot you imagine when you think of Texas. He is the antithesis of light: he is a void which darkens all that is great, innovative, forgiving, creative, loving and welcoming about Texas. He is the living embodiment of the hateful caricature you don't actually believe exists. Our sinister cynical slimebag of a governor is reasonable and gracious by comparison. Lt Dan makes atheists hope for an afterlife so the evil fuck can burn for eternity suffering without the relief of a spiritual end. That he would identify with and align himself with the purely evil fuck who murdered so many hours ago is no surprise to those who are acquainted with him. I hope the blowback and suffering that is coming Lt Dan's way is in direct proportion to the love and healing and hope the best of humanity is currently offering up to the victims and families of the victims of this villainous and cowardly act of hatred. May the merciless and jealous God Lt Dan worships find no favor in his blasphemous misappropriation of His word. May God instead comfort the murdered and those left behind to grieve.

And just to be clear, in case I didn't come right out and say it, fuck Texas Lt Governor Dan Patrick.

Hugs to the victims and their families and friends and acquaintances and all those inspired and loved by them.

too many Christians think gay should be dead! Yes, I think it's that BAD.

"Christian of faith"?!! Hahahaa. Too many of THEM are just like the Texas lieutenant governor.

"Christ" was supposedly a very compassionate person, unlike too many Christians of today.

Years ago, my southern Baptist "christian" mother said gays deserve to die from AIDS!! As an old atheist, my relationship with her has been very strained for many decades.

So, I hope you understand why I used that term now. It was a slap at "them."

Don't give me the "no a true Scotsman" argument.

Lt. Governor Dan Patrick received no endorsements from major newspapers. Now the world knows why. He is unable to separate his religious zealotry from his government job.

That 's all that now remains, for advocating that radical Christian extremists act in the exact manner that the individual in Orlando did. If "reaping what one sows" is God's will as bestowed on the victims ("sinners&quot in Orlando, then how can it be interpreted otherwise?

He's learning from Trump by saying anything first, and then taking it back.

It doesn't work. The hatred in him is obvious.

So embarrassed to be a Texan. I extend my thoughts and prayers to ALL in Orlando.

This really was a Phelps move. The timing, the wording, the only thing missing is Patrick holding a "GHF" sign.

You do "reap what you sow."

If you invade a country, blow up the homes, killing women, children, reducing the cities to rubble, killing a million people thru the indirect as well as direct effects of the war, and setting it on a firm path toward complete obliteration, you sometimes inspire the survivors to think occasionally about "revenge." It's a messy part of life in the earth, but as Patrick said, "You reap what you sow."
