Chris Stevens' sister: Don't blame Clinton for Benghazi

When it comes to who was responsible for the security lapses that resulted in the death of her brother, Chris Stevens, and three other Americans in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11, 2012, the ambassador's sister and family spokesperson, Anne Stevens, is not pointing the finger at Hillary Clinton. And it is "inappropriate," she said, to make Benghazi an election issue.
"I do not blame Hillary Clinton or Leon Panetta," Stevens said in an interview published Tuesday with The New Yorker's Robin Wright, referring to the former secretaries of State and defense, respectively. "They were balancing security efforts at embassies and missions around the world. And their staffs were doing their best to provide what they could with the resources they had. The Benghazi Mission was understaffed. We know that now. But, again, Chris knew that. It wasnt a secret to him. He decided to take the risk to go there. It is not something they did to him. It is something he took on himself."
Instead, Stevens remarked that if any entity had any culpability, it was Congress for the State Department's budget.
"Perhaps if Congress had provided a budget to increase security for all missions around the world, then some of the requests for more security in Libya would have been granted," Stevens told Wright.

(11,815 posts)The republican Congress cut the State Dept. budget. The onus is on them.

(314 posts)not just for fucking up by slashing the security budgets, but also for then trying to blame others - and making a political hatchet job out of it.
Republicans will never regain any honor in America if they do not apologize for their FAILURES on 9/11, Benghazi, and so many other colossal screw ups.

The The Main US Embassy in Libya is in Tripoli which is the capital of Libya.
http://libya.usembassy.gov/
I don't expect Obama or Hillary to supervise or even know about every single one
of the 294 US Embassies, especially the "backwater embassies like the one in Benghazi which are notorious for being used as fronts for the CIA and "Black Ops".
I have no doubt that the CIA was using the backwater embassy in Behghazi to collect "intelligence" and eliminate AlQueda (Black Flag) Radical Muslim leadership that we put in power by "removing" Qaddafi,
and not doing very well.
We DO know that the CIA was involved with the embassy in Benghazi (if not running the whole thing), and undoubtedly, these Out-of-Control-Rambo-wannabes were running "Black Ops" out of the embassy in Benghazi.
The attack on the embassy in Benghazi was BLOWBACK....guaranteed.
Naturally, neither Hillary nor Obama could publicly admit that Benghazi was a CIA operation.
..just my .02 after observing US "Intelligence" operations in the Middle East for over 50 years.

(44,173 posts)But you know that Republicans will just reach into the toolbox and find some other relative of a Benghazi casualty to bitch and complain.

(5,163 posts)The absolute gall (as well as projection) on the part off the Republicans to try to turn any tragedy into the fault of the Democrats is outrageous. They even tried to give 9/11 a tentative shot before being forced by public opinion to shut up. The "hay" that Democrats could have made of the Bush administration's responsibility for 9/11 would have torn this country apart for at least a decade. BUT, I am really tired of having the worst of the Democrat's (admittedly) many faults being their determination to ignore all the Repug outrages, starting with Bush vs Gore. for "the good of the country." Something else beyond unbelievable wimpiness has to be at play here.

(17,435 posts)...that it is somehow normal to turn with fury on the State Department in a situation like this. It's not as though it was some dark secret that serving abroad could be dangerous.
