CLEVELAND – Just hours before accepting his party’s nomination, Donald Trump taunted his party on Thursday – ripping into his rivals and joking that, had he run as an independent, he could have defeated the GOP.

During a luncheon with 300 top donors, just blocks from the convention center here, Trump said the Republican National Committee wanted him to sign the loyalty pledge last year because they were afraid he’d run as an independent and that they knew he would beat them. Four people in the room relayed his remarks—though two thought he was joking.

“He said Reince (Priebus) knew if he ran as an independent, he would have beaten the Republicans,” said one donor in attendance.

Trump also remarked that the RNC “better do a good job at get out the vote. You better hire good people. I’m spending a lot of money and raising this for the party.” He pledged to work hard for the party as the nominee, those sources said................

I can imagine the RNC will not like these remarks by the egotistical trump!

An invaluable one.

He needs to have to start over from scratch. From nothing.

They're gonna end up pulling ALL their donations and surrendering the presidency to the Dems just to spite the spoiled little rat bastard.

Looks like the Republicans have nominated a whiner in chief. Be interesting to see if any of this is in his acceptance speech.

seem to be rather spineless. They could barely contain Sarah Palin in 2008 - and, now they have Palin on Steroids as the nominee.

Trump never takes the blame for anything. This is a little preemptive deflecting.

10. Did Trump really forgive the money he lent to his campaign?

I know he got a lot of publicity when it was announced back in early to mid June. However, when his initial 2Q filing came out, the forgiving of the loan was not on there. Did he issue final numbers yet? Was the loan forgiveness on there?

Don't be too shocked if some (hired) "lone wolf" takes Trump out sometime before the election.

The Rethugs are certainly not above trying it, and as much as we may dislike Trump one certainly hopes he realizes that.

They more they feign lining up behind Trump, the more you can bet that they're working behind the scenes to sabotage him.

It's a good year to be a Democrat (goodness knows there haven't been many lately).

15. This is just another money making scheme for Trump...

He rents his plane out, he rents his golf courses out, he rents his hotels out, everything and everywhere he goes is connected to him and he is charging the campaign for the use of facilities. He will end up making hundreds of millions on this. I seriously doubt he gives a shit if he wins or not. He sure doesn't act like it. If he wins he won't make nearly as much money as if he looses. Just think how much his campaign will owe him after the election.

However, if he wins he will have trillions to play with and rob contractors of just like he does now. His family will stand to make billions. So who is he most loyal to, himself or his family? We all know that answer.
