Poll: Voters give Democrats edge to lead Congress

Source: Politico

By NICK GASS 08/05/16 07:27 AM EDT

More American voters want the Democratic Party to lead Congress than its Republican counterpart, which has controlled both the House and the Senate since the 2014 midterm elections, according to the latest results of a national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll of registered voters out Friday.

While 43 percent said they wanted Republicans to maintain their hold on Congress after the November elections, 47 percent said they would prefer to see Democrats return to power in both chambers for the first time since the tea party wave of 2010 swept the GOP into the majority the next year.

The same poll showed voters divided on the question in June, with 46 percent each expressing support for either party to control Congress. But in the May survey, voters also indicated that they preferred a Democratic-controlled Congress by a similar four-point margin of 48 percent to 44 percent. A Fox News poll conducted at the end of June found that 46 percent preferred Democrats in charge, while 41 percent favored Republicans maintaining their advantage.

The latest survey was conducted from July 31-Aug. 3, surveying 800 registered voters with an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Now for us to do the right thing for ourselves as the adults in the room. GOTV. If someone you're talking to isn't on the fence, move on. Your time is better spent showing that you're a likable person with sensible values and you're supporting Hillary/Kaine, who are also sensible likable people.

People who are undecided will find that appealing. Be sure you ask them if they need a ride to the polls. And if they're not registered, get them registered.

Sweep the GOP out in 2016.

and calling them names, is out?

Which was kinda what I did when we talked last time.
I did my best, but he just kept repeating all the rightwing bullshit about Hillary.
All the rightwing bullshit I harshly ridicule trolls for.
When I heard it coming from him....it was like my eye twitched a few times and then I let him have it. We yelled at each other for a good half hour, lol.
I kept asking him where he got his news from and he wouldn't answer. So then I was like, Fox News? I told him if he was ashamed to say where he got his news, then he must know it's bullshit, at least on some level.

As you were.

Just try to refrain from the Ad hominem attacks. That's their domain.

It's quite fun.

The mere fact Republican legislators and Donald Trump have any supporters is testimony to the ignorance of American voters.

under HRC... as long as they are aggressive and make some actual changes, as opposed to other years and missed opportunities when they wanted to have "unity" and didn't want to "upset" the other side.

I think they learned those lessons over the past eight years, though.

and I have NO love lost for Harry Reid. I never felt he had Obama's back from the beginning, which in turn allowed the Republicans to tie the Senate up in knots. Let's not forget they needed Democratic help to sustain all those filibusters. Instead of whipping those necessary votes into line, he entered into "handshake" deals with Mitch McConnell, who promptly went back on his word. And even though Obama has an awesome "getting things done" record, it stopped him from doing a lot more.

I really think Hillary will be tougher on this aspect. I think if Schumer tries to pull the same crap, Hillary will take him to the woodshed. We all know everyone does better in the economy when Democrats are in charge, and those states that were turned over to Republican/Tea Party legislatures are struggling, to be kind. So let's stop making believe today's Republicans have good ideas that will benefit as many people as possible, and just get stuff done. Add that to just how much Trump strikes fear into so many Republican hearts, even they are beginning to see the folly of the last 30 years. They can try to blame Obama all they want, but they built this monster, and now they can't control it. This time around, they will (hopefully) be at least willing to consider Democratic ideas.

Those polled, that would like to see the Democrats take control of Congress have the means of doing so by being sure they are registered and show up to the polls in November. It's all pretty simple.

Clinton may have a better chance than you think. Most states are holding state primaries now, and early indications are that the Republicans that are winning are more moderate, while the hardline Tea Partyists are getting voted out in droves. This happened in Washington state - Democrats did better than Republicans, but when there were multiple Republicans, the more conservative ones were ousted. It'll be interesting to see if this trend continues.

People want federal money in their districts. It used to be give and take, negotiate, but shutting down the government means nothing for anyone. Rural areas? Farm money. Florida? Zika money, maybe hurricane money. Western states? Fires, range, And don't forget National Parks. They are full of German and Japanese tourists.
