Trump team tries to knock down suggestions he joked about Clinton assassination

Source: Politico

Donald Trump’s rapid response team on Tuesday tried to walk back the candidate’s suggestion that Second Amendment enthusiasts could stop Hillary Clinton, remarks interpreted widely as the GOP nominee joking about an assassination.

“It’s called the power of unification,” Jason Miller, campaign spokesman, said in an email sent by the rapid response team. “2nd Amendment people have amazing spirit and are tremendously unified, which gives them great political power. And this year, they will be voting in record numbers, and it won’t be for Hillary Clinton, it will be for Donald Trump.”

Trump, minutes earlier at a rally, said: “Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish, the Second Amendment…By the way, and if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know. But I’ll tell you what, that will be a horrible day.”

Hmm, if there was nothing wrong with the statement, why the need to comment on it?

as a political campaign, it is the single-most hilarious disaster i have seen in my not-so-short-anymore life

as political performance art, it is pure brilliance.

the scripts write themselves, but in case they don't Donald should get in touch with his good friend John Barron, who does some quality ghost writing on the side

It'll be a horrible day if he beats Hillary because of 2nd amendment voters? Obviously that's not what he meant. He meant he would pretend it would be 'horrible' if Hillary were killed, because that is what he thinks absolves him of any responsibility for making this statement.

Nice try though.

2nd amendment people are free to go out in the streets and protest the repeal of the 2nd. which will be occurring approximately never ever.

note to trump: judges don't repeal amendments, dipshit.

And he's getting intelligence briefings -------------really, they are giving him intelligence briefings, this can't be emphasized enough, he has no business getting them, he is telling people:

“Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish, the Second Amendment…By the way, and if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know. But I’ll tell you what, that will be a horrible day.”

This IDIOT is talking about other people killing people if he doesn't get elected-----------

Hey republicans you own this guy, and he now owns you, he really is a narcissistic psychopath, I can't wait until he has to testify on the Trump U fraud case and the public gets to see his tax returns.

What are the republican enablers going to say now, and those that are trying to have it both ways in this election like the Paul Ryan and his Congressional House , and Mitch McConnell and his Senate---------------he is there leader, and he's the last of the insane clowns from the bus ride for the last eighteen months

People, we need to get out and vote, this can't be emphasized enough.

People are posting about this like Trump has rolled off axel deep to a Ferris Wheel into the stink. The fact of the matter is Trump has just placed himself at the top of the news cycle for the rest of the week.

How much more free air time can the news media give him? Especially when half the Republican base is high-fiving themselves on how great he is.

And he followed up with, "That will be a horrible day." So he was talking about a specific time after Clinton wins election and is appointing SCOTUS judges. No indication before, during or after the riff that this was a joke.
