Poll: Three out of five Texans who support Trump want secession if Hillary becomes president

Source: Houston Chronicle

If anyone needs proof that the presidential race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton truly is dividing the country, they should look to Texas.

According to poll results from Public Policy Polling released Tuesday, three out of five Texans who support Donald Trump said they would support seceding from America if Hillary Clinton becomes president.

Data from the left-leaning polling firm shows that Trump leads Clinton by a margin of 50 percent to 44 percent in Texas. This is far from the landslide win for Mitt Romney in the 2012 election. Four years ago, Romney beat President Barack Obama 57.2 percent to 41.4 percent.

According to the polling results from PPP, only one out of four Texans support seceding from America generally. But when faced with the possibility of a President Hillary Clinton, a majority of Texans said they'd rather leave. . . .

Yeah, so-called, self-described "patriots" who can't accept the results of an election - kind of like the one in 1860. How did that work out for you, Texas?

And yes, it's very unlikely Dems can win Texas' 38 electoral votes anytime soon (as nice as that would be); but if Hillary can come within single digits, she might help Democratic candidates take back a couple of House seats from the Texas delegation - even with all the Gerrymandering there.

They have a similar problem with these types in the Deep South as well.

I know a number of Southerners - even some Republicans - that are mortified when they hear of these things; "I hope someone's keeping an eye on them; they f'ing serious," I was told once.

Well, they may riot a little (like they did in Ole Miss on election night 2012); but I really don't think they're up more any more trouble than that.

This sixth generation Texan would be happy if the Trump supporters would go elsewhere and allow the state of Texas to return to that which it was - BLUE.

My beloved Texas gets a bad rap because the idiot extremists are always doing something to get themselves into the news. The crazies have come in and taken over. The rest of us are trying desperately to maintain some common sense and we are working hard to get out the vote and take Texas back.

That bit of info says 3 out of 5 Trump supporters, not 3 out of 5 Texans. Big difference. So that makes it roughly 30% of Texans, not the majority.

Do you really think for one minute the powers that be would allow a Texas secession when to do so would wipe out a lot of big businesses here and *gulp* force the new nation to impose taxes???Hell no. You can kiss that whole scenario goodbye, it ain't happening.

As for the idea the Dems in Texas aren't doing enough, well hello we're making gains, with a hell of a lot of gerrymandering keeping us under wraps. Have you seen a Texas district map? The damn thing looks like plate of spaghetti noodles. It's that bad. I live in North Texas, Hood County, near DFW. Yes North Texas and no that's not the Panhandle...but hey guess where my congress critter lives? Way the hell out in West Texas, Midland no less. His home office is 300 miles west of me. He has a tiny office here in the county and he's been once in the last three years. He has no vested in interest in this county other than it consistently votes red because it takes in a huge swath of rural area. It's the same with most of the red districts, all them are drawn through the rural areas because those areas almost always vote Republican.

We got some of the map changed, but not enough to make a real difference. The minority vote is key to the success of ending the GOP strangle hold. We're making progress but it's slow. This is the first real shot we've had at making any kind of meaningful impact on the voting map.

Secession talk has been around as long as I can remember and that's going back to the damn 60's. It's nothing new. the only thing that's changed is the idiots have found each via the internet and made their own little pocket of crazy to call home. That's it.

Even if you assume that the secession is amicable (and if things are so amicable, why secede anyway), the entanglements between the public and private affairs of the seceding states and the ones that remain are so numerous and so complicated that it would take years to work them out. And -- here's the fatal flaw: there's no higher court or other governing body to appeal to to resolve disputes.

Just guns. Guns are usually the way these things end up being resolved. Just like the last time.

I have received your petition to secede from the United States, and have forwarded it to Congress who will act on it with their usual speed.
All military bases in Texas will be closed and personnel will be relocated to bases in the United States, except for a contingency left to guard the Texas-US Border.
Any Texas citizen holding a US passport is required to surrender it immediately. Entry into the US will require a valid Texas passport. Anyone staying longer than 2 weeks will have to obtain a visa.
Funding for highways, transportation, bridges, infrastructure, education, and medical facilities will cease immediately. Your representatives to the US Congress are ordered to leave Washington as soon as possible. All US licenses to do business are revoked.
The FAA will no longer operate your airports, and traffic controllers are terminated. All civil service employees in the country of Texas are terminated.
The FCC no longer operates, so you will be responsible for licensing your own Television, Radio, Telephone, and Internet providers.
Anyone receiving payments for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Disability will have to reapply, and Congress will decide if foreigners are allowed to receive payments from the US Government.
The Coast Guard will no longer operate in Texas waters, so suggest you form your own Navy immediately to protect your borders against foreign invaders, drug smugglers, terrorists, and illegal aliens.

Good Luck,
