Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort resigns
Source: Washington Post
Manafort issued his resignation Friday to Trump and fellow senior campaign officials, the friend said. He is leaving on good terms with the campaign, the friend added, and continues to support Trump.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.
<Edit: Updated headline added. Updated story> -
Trump campaign chairman and chief strategist Paul Manafort resigned on Friday, following a staff shake-up this week that reduced his role in the campaign.
GOP nominee Donald Trump confirmed the resignation in a statement Friday morning: This morning Paul Manafort offered, and I accepted, his resignation from the campaign. I am very appreciative for his great work in helping to get us where we are today, and in particular his work guiding us through the delegate and convention process. Paul is a true professional and I wish him the greatest success.
Manafort is leaving on good terms with the campaign, and will remain an ally and outside confidant of the campaign, according to a close associate of his who spoke on the condition of anonymity Friday to The Washington Post.
According to conversations late Thursday with Trump aides, Manaforts departure was expected to come due to the reshuffling of the campaigns staff earlier in the week, with Stephen K. Bannon being named chief executive and Kellyanne Conway assuming the role of campaign manager.

In a statement released shortly after the news broke on Twitter, Trump thanked Manafort for the contributions he made during his three months leading the campaign.
"I am very appreciative for his great work in helping to get us where we are today, and in particular his work guiding us through the delegate and convention process. Paul is a true professional and I wish him the greatest success," Trump said.

(5,611 posts)photo-op. Seriously Trump is the most narcissistic creep I've ever seen in politics, and that is obviously saying something since politicians are notorious narcissists. The gov of Louisiana asked Trump NOT to visit since the state is in distress yet of course Trump shows up like the stupid pig he is -- disgusting.
Yeah, Trump is so "stable" and the "law and order" guy. Riiiiight. The idiot on CNN is calling Trump "nimble." Yeah, right -- nimble like the proverbial bull in a china shop. Insane.

(1,254 posts)To OVERRIDE FBI objections to issuing a VISA for one of Manafort's sleazy Russian business partners, Oleg Deripanska. Why go to McCain? Because Manafort's business partner, Rick Davis (who is still on Trump's staff) was once John McCain's CAMPAIGN MANAGER. What the hell, HOW the hell are all these people with ties to Russia getting into our elections? Hope someone is looking into this.

I hope someone is looking into to it as well, but meanwhile, it would be nice if the damn press did its job.

wont still do what ever he was doing like Stone who supposedly left Don ' campaign a while back .
Have not found this anywhere else but according to article
" When Manafort took an apartment in Trump Towers in 2006, he would kibitz with his old client when theyd run into one another on the elevator. Trump knew this guy was top drawer, says one Republican operative. "

Manafort was in trouble years ago with campaign stuff which he was able to walk away from this time around I hope he is not able to
PatSeg
(47,501 posts)it appears he prefers to remain behind the scenes. I'm sure he is getting far too much attention and publicity for his liking.
Yes, it is very likely he is not really "gone", but I wonder if he considered this campaign a lost cause. Compared to his other clients, Trump must be a total nightmare. Must be like trying to make Yosemite Sam into a viable candidate.
I still hope someone is keeping an eye on all the players ...............

(47,501 posts)"The Making of Donald Trump" and Trump has a lot of unsavory people in his life. It is hardly a secret, yet the media rarely even touches on the subject. His history of mob connections is long and incriminating, but the media frequently paints him as a colorful, but successful real estate tycoon.

(47,501 posts)If there is a wrong way to do something, that tends to be Trump's way. It is like he tries to lose money. The whole Atlantic City casino venture was a total catastrophe. Even when he cuts corners, cheated contractors and suppliers, and broke laws, he still failed!
The book is interesting. I am amazed that Trump has any assets left at all.

Manafort was not taking a salary from the campaign. But he doesn't work for free.

(24,396 posts)He's a sleeze, but he was correct in trying to get Trump to pivot toward normalcy for the GE. He failed in that, because anyone would have failed. Trump's response was to bring in a couple of smarmy, sneering far-right yes men who will rubber stamp Trump's losing strategy.
Bannon and Conway aren't stupid. Both know that their personal political apples will be polished in the RW world by having led a presidential campaign, even one that is failing and will ultimately lose big time, as will Trump's. They are taking advantage of the stupidity of Trump's naivety to advance their own standing in RW power circles. Their excuse when Trump loses will be that they were called in too late...but don't let that stop any 2020 candidates putting their numbers on speed dial.
I for one am breathing a big sigh of relief now that Manafort is out and those two RW nut jobs are in.
