New York Daily News Also Received Trump’s Tax Returns, But…

The New York Daily News has expressed nothing but contempt for Donald Trump in recent months, but it turns out they also received that same old tax return the New York Times did but did not publish anything on it.

CNN reports tonight that the Daily News also received the same returns the Times did, sent to EIC Jim Rich on September 23. The Times was able to vet the documents, but the Daily News apparently wasn’t:

But a source at the Daily News told CNNMoney that their paper was unsuccessful in locating a tax expert who could verify the documents.

“We received (the documents) around the same time… but were unable to track down the preparer or verify the veracity of the documents through other attempts,” the Daily News source told CNNMoney.

They certainly weren't in the habit of sparing criticism of Trump when he deserved it.

They just didn't have the resources to validate the documents before the Times. No responsible news organization would publish them before such validation.

There was no cowing other than normal journalistic skepticism.

The Times would have much more to pour into vetting those documents and no responsible news organization would publish them without documenting their veracity.

If I were to leak such a thing I would back up my actions by leaking to more than one news organization.

That Daily News could not vet them before the Times is not surprising.

8. The important "take away" (hate that expression) is that Trump and his cronies...

....all but conceded that the returns were genuine and he didn't pay taxes all those years.

You know if it wasn't true they'd be denying it up and down.

speculated that it might have been Marla that sent the taxes. I haven't heard any more on this theory though.

Three people signed those documents: Donald Trump, his accountant who confirmed their authenticity, and his then-wife Marla Maples.

Who has moved to New York City (from which the tax returns were sent) to be near her daughter, Tiffany, whom Trump has pretty steadfastly ignored all her life? Marla Maples.

Who seems like an okay lady who’s trying to be some light in the world? Marla Maples.

Who said she would spill the beans on Donald Trump if he ever ran for president? Why, it was Marla Maples!

Whom did Donald Trump reportedly coerce into posing for Playboy when she really didn’t want to, because he is the most hypocritical man who has EVER LIVED? One guess -- Marla Maples.
