Two police officers in Mississippi are on paid leave after a 3-year-old daughter of one of the officers died unattended in a patrol car.
Hancock County Chief Deputy Sheriff Don Bass said Long Beach police officer Cassie Barker's daughter died Friday after the child was left in the car for four hours while her mother was visiting with Long Beach patrolman Clark Ladner. Both officers were off-duty at the time.
Long Beach Police Chief Wayne McDowell told The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/2dVvczI ) that Barker and Ladner were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam said the car was running and the air conditioning was on when investigators found the child, who died at a hospital.

(26,286 posts)They only said the car was found with the AC running but that doesnt mean it was running the entire time the child was in the car as they could have returned, found the kid dead and then turned it on to try and cover up for their negligence.

Long Beach police officer Cassie Barker has been identified as the mother of Cheyenn Hyer, who died Friday after she was left unattended in a patrol car on Standard-Dedeaux Road in Kiln. Sheriff Ricky Adam said the car was running and the air conditioning was on when sheriffs investigators got to the scene between noon and 1 p.m. Friday.
However, Adam said, the case remains under investigation and an arrest could follow once investigators receive additional information requested from other officials.

Chief Investigator Glen Grannan said Monday deputies have learned Barker was involved in an unrelated incident which resulted in her having to go through the state Department of Human Services so she could have her child back. The incident involved the same child.
Grannan said investigators are going through the proper legal protocols to get all the information I need.
