BOULDER, Colo. (AP) Authorities have released the name of a man who was shot to death by police when he refused to drop a large machete after threatening someone at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
The Boulder County Coroner's Office identified the man Thursday night as 28-year-old Brandon Simmons, of Thornton.
Investigators say Simmons brandished the machete during an altercation in the parking lot of a sports complex Wednesday and then went inside the building, where a staff member called 911.
Two officers, one from the university and one from the city, fired shots after confronting the man in a stairwell and ordering him to drop the weapon.

When you have guys with weapons pointed at you, yelling at you to put down a weapon, whatever happens to you is in your control. You can surrender and go to jail for threatening someone with a deadly weapon, or you can be shot to death by the cops who you are threatening.
But what you are not going to be able to do is simply walk away. This was not an innocent man gunned down like Tulsa. This was a violent criminal that refused to put down a deadly weapon. What was he planning on doing with that machete before 911 was called? He took a large machete to confront someone. No one does that without some kind of calculus. That person is alive because of what the cops did.

I don't get it.
They probably feel their time is too precious to stand around waiting for a more merciful conclusion which allows their target to live.
