Pence chides woman calling for 'revolution' if Clinton wins
Source: CNN
Newton, Iowa (CNN) Indiana Gov. Mike Pence dissuaded a female supporter Tuesday from starting a revolution in the wake of a Hillary Clinton victory in a passionate exchange here in Iowa during a town hall.
The woman, who identified herself as Rhonda, expressed concern about voter fraud in the upcoming elections saying that she was scared of the outcomes.
"Our lives depend on this election. Our kids' futures depend on this election and I will tell you just for me, and I don't want this to happen but I will tell you for me personally if Hillary Clinton gets in, I myself, I'm ready for a revolution because we can't have her in," she said emotionally.
Pence shook his head a little, saying: "Don't say that."

I do not know whether this reflects well or poorly on Pence. On the one hand, Pence is not going the bat shit crazy route and seems to be trying to manage the level of rhetoric that is emanating from his campaign. On the other hand, Pence is enabling and giving legitimacy to Trump whose efforts to stir up unrest are treasonous.

(24,337 posts)It would have lead to an argument since the woman bringing it up was already living in the 'voting fraud' universe of republikkan politics
I think his handling of it was probably best since she appears to be unable to be reasoned with
I think he handled it about as well as you can with someone who is weird

(50,986 posts)repulsive to us, but he does have a level of self-awareness that his running mate lacks.
In pretty short order I think Pence's polish and poise are going to be put to the test, since it's clear quite a few other Republicans want the same job in 2020 that Pence does. A Pence-Cruz feud looks almost inevitable. That could be a lot of fun to watch.

The sad part is that Pence (although he did talk the woman out of her comment somewhat) just didn't go far enough. Progressives endured 8 years of Dubya, and my god that was a hell of a long haul.

(34,137 posts)I'm old enough I remember struggling through 8 years of Noxious Nixon and the despair that his re-election in 1972 gave us.
When Dubya was elected, then re-elected I seriously considered moving out of the country but I have far too many ties to pack up and leave. And I love this country too much to leave it to whackadoodles like that woman who was talking to Pence.
My ancestors fought for this country to BE a country and for our independence from English kings. I'm not leaving and I'm not going to let nuts like most of the Trump supporter destroy my country.

And you're right about all those long years under GOP fixers and thugs and mediocrities.
There are video clips of John Kennedy speaking at various times and places. After listening to a news cycle now of Trump and Pence, I like to listen to Kennedy on those clips. It brings back a very high standard of public service and offers relief from the tawdriness of Trump's public words and actions.

He is a dealer in precious metals and knows the price of gold would triple overnight if Trump won. Today, I'm near Utrecht, where you won't find a Trump supporter anywhere unless some idiot American tourist with more money than brains is parading around somewhere.

I think he sees himself as the guy standing on the beach and here comes the tidal wave
No place to run or hide
He f*cked up worse on this decision than he did on the hate bill he signed
He worked Treasury for Dumbya, signed the hate bill and agreed to be Trump's Veep
Doesn't bode well for his own judgment

(1,134 posts)and McCain had some loon talking about how Obama was muslim or something along those lines. McCain had to reign the craziness in. They (or at least their buddies) help fuel the flames that lead to these people thinking they have "normal" views, and sometimes they end up having to confront it head on. I think it's amusing when it happens.

(196 posts)After HRC wins gun sales will soar and there may be a few random acts of violence but that will be about it.
And we learned from W.--Palin---Tea Party---Romney---these people lack the power of introspection. I do predict that a large group may officially break with the Republican Party. And I think Trump will start a viewer subscription/radio talk gig similar to the way Beck made his millions.
But there ain't going to be no revolution. Most of those calling for it are middle aged and living on social security/pensions/disability. This includes the younger set as well: the gun/Ford F-150 types, many of them in debt, with their share of closet prescription drug/opiate addicts.
History shows to have a revolution you need to have at least 20% of the population who are willing to die for a cause. They have the 20% but not the willingness to suffer great discomfort, much less place themselves in mortal danger for the cause. The bird sanctuary guys demonstrated that.
There are the 1%er's and then there is everyone else. I wonder how long it will take for these guys to realize we are on the same side.
