In 2004, as Donald Trump was preparing to be married for the third time, he went on The Howard Stern Show and told a story from the end of his first marriage. It was about the day in 1990 when Trump invited both his wife and his mistress to go skiing in Aspen at the same time.
This is a story Ive never told about that mountain, because it was sort of a horrible thing, Trump began, as Stern and co-host Robin Quivers egged him on. He said they were at a restaurant near the ski slopes. Lunchtime. Two thousand people eating lunch, in Trumps retelling.
Im standing there putting on my skis, and Im with one or the other, I didnt know who, Trump said, meaning then-wife Ivana Trump or then-mistress Marla Maples, later Trumps second wife. And the other one comes over, and they start screaming at each other. I love him! I love him! Dont you understand! I love! And theyre both screaming that I love them.
Its a story that has been told before by biographers, reporters and Ivana Trump herself. But this seems to be one of the rare times Trump himself told it in public. In his telling, but not the others, there was an important peripheral character: an obese man.

(9,273 posts)Back when he was rivals with Philly's former #1 morning show jock, John DiBella. DiBella was going through a nasty and very publicized divorce. In the middle of this, his estranged wife committed suicide. Stern took the opportunity to make things worse by making jokes about it on the air. Totally lost all respect for him at that point.
But it's possible he may have played a major role in saving the country from disaster.

(129,457 posts)I remember when he actually traveled down here to Philly and set up a tent to broadcast his show outside of where DeBella had his "Morning Zoo" show, in order to do an in-his-face stunt broadcast with all his own local listener fans egging him on.
Stern basically redefined the "Shock Jock" style of broadcast - obviously so much so that he was kicked off the public airwaves and landed on satellite (with the huge unprecedented payoff as the then-Sirius headliner). His show was essentially adult-level junior high school toilet-type programming.

Why has this clown been sailing through our election process with nary a whisper of this crap until now, one month before the election?

(129,457 posts)I have been posting the same thing for months. The stuff is OUT THERE. Because he was so prolific in every type of media - including regular news, entertainment, and even sports (tv, radio, newspaper, magazines - notably pop culture ones) - all to "market himself and his brand", there is plenty out there.
The only thing I can think of is that outside of them not wanting to deal with the nuisance of his lawyers and their frivolous lawsuits, they probably all assumed that he would eventually drop out and and move on to something else. But since the television "pundits" fed his ego, ignored his past, and stoked his run for office, he obviously decided to go for it because he could keep selling his brand for free.
The print media has actually been all over him - notably the local NY papers.
But the television media had purposely ignored the print stories because they needed to encourage the purchase of election ads by promoting false equivalencies and the "horse race" bullshit.
