Just hope all those Dems are voting HRC and not der orange fuhrer. Sorry, living in FL. I have seen for myself what the Repug party is capable of. I was in Miami during the riots that they've since denied. I saw them on tv, saw them terrorize the vote counters and threaten them badly. Now with Russia trying to put Drumpf over the top, there can be no room for complacency, everyone must GOTV!!

Can't wait to be another FL Dem who is voting for HRC this weekend. Wish it could be it earlier, but work and dr. appts. make that impossible until Sat.

Don't most states wait and add to Election Day totals?

I guess we just don't run uniform elections!

• Some states may report early voting statistics by party registration (if a state has party registration), race, gender, and age. It is important to understand breakdowns of early voters by party registration are not votes. We do not know who a person registered with a party voted for. Early votes are tabulated on Election Day or after, depending if a state accepts mail ballots postmarked on Election Day. That said, we might infer that a person registered with a party is likely to support their party's presidential nominee.

This is totally normal to keep a running tally of who has cast a ballot. No ballot is typically opened or counted until Election Day, but voting is a matter of public record and campaigns request this information to help them during GOTV. They can cross off the names of people who have already voted.

in states where voters are registered by party, campaigns get the information on who has voted from the election officials in the state before a single vote has been tallied.

Are you saying on Election Day the campaigns get running totals of party voting?

In many states if not all, who is registered to vote, party affiliation if applicable, and whether or not they've voted in a particular election is a matter of public record. In my state, campaign reps can go down to the county registrar and get data on who were sent ballots and who returned them already - campaigns with a well-organized ground force do this regularly so they won't spend their resources going after people who've already voted. My state also has information on who has voted in person at that person's polling site on election day - this data is updated throughout election day.

Now, while the signatures are checked as the mail-in ballots arrive, and verified ones are put in the "acccepted" pile, the actual envelopes aren't open until election day, here, after the polls close. So while campaigns can assume that early voters will break along party lines they don't know for sure.

these aren't the vote totals, they are the numbers of registered voters by party (Dem, Rep and Other) who have voted already.

I don't recall getting running totals of party voting on Election Day.

Seems like that could influence participation later in the process, later on Election Day. Also meaningfully impact Get Out the Vote efforts, commercials, campaign staff and volunteers.

I have never lived in a state with early voting or walk-in absentee voting, just mail-in sworn affidavit absentee where you swear you can't get there on Election Day.

If Democrats were reporting 2 to 1 in early voting, and a substantial percentage of voters participate early, and East Coast swings Democratic on Election Night as polls close - what happens to Nov. 8 turnout - and who would be inclined to turnout?
