CANNON BALL, N.D. A new standoff at the North Dakota pipeline protest has been temporarily averted after a deal was brokered with law enforcement.
Miles Allard, who has allowed protesters to camp on land he owns with his wife, said he intervened because of concerns that people were going to get hurt.
He said law enforcement agreed to stand down if protesters dismantled a blockage on a bridge just north of Cannon Ball, North Dakota. The deal was brokered by elders.
The burned shells of a couple of dump trucks and and an SUV continued to block the highway Friday afternoon as protesters slowly retreated while singing a Native American song. Mostly young people remained behind on the bridge.
