Britain’s oldest hotel collapses after being ravaged by massive fire

The oldest hotel in Britain is on the brink of collapse after being gutted by a fire that has raged fore more than a day.

The front of the Royal Clarence, which dates back to 1769, has begun to fall in the fire in Exeter city centre that started in the early hours of Friday morning.

The historic hotel is believed to be the oldest still in business and has served the likes of Peter Rabbit author Beatrix Potter.

Firefighters have been trying to bring the blaze under control during the night but much of the top section of the front of the building is reported to have fallen in.
