U.S. product safety officials announced a recall affecting 2.8 million Samsung Electronics Co. washing machines, in another hit to the companys reputation already reeling from the botched recall of its Galaxy Note 7 phone.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the tops can detach during use. The company has received more than 700 reports of incidents and nine reports of injuries including a broken jaw, the agency said Friday.
The recall affects 34 top-loading models sold at various stores starting in 2011.
....
The extensive recall comes two months after the Korean manufacturer said it was in active discussions with U.S. officials to address potential safety issues of certain top-loading washing machines.
In August, three consumers filed suit against Samsung, alleging that their machines suddenly exploded while in use.

(45,806 posts)Are they talking about the entire top of the machine flying off with a force strong enough to do THAT kind of damage?

(7,006 posts)Need to upgrade and the issues with the Note 7 dashed those hopes. Now, Samsung is having issues with its Washing Machines?
Might have to be a reluctant iPhone 7 converter if the news for Samsung doesn't turn around, soon.

(4,584 posts)Kept leaking water into the vegetable bin because the area behind the back panel kept freezing solid. Sears, another piece of shit company, tried fixing it 3 times and when it would not stay fixed they would not replace the fridge. NEVER buy Samsung appliances. NEVER shop at Sears.

(38,311 posts)After two decades of service, and suffering our aggressive tap water and my wife's faith in bleach, one of the clips holding the machine together must have broken during the spin cycle and all the other clips followed. The electrical switches that are supposed to stop the machine if something bad happens were probably corroded too. The wreckage was remarkable. The machine looked like an angry gorilla had attacked it.
There's no excuses for a newer machine that destroys itself.
