Christian college in southwest Missouri bans student alcohol use, even if over 21 and off campus
Source: STL Post Dispatch
The Springfield News-Leader reports that College of the Ozarks, a private Christian institution in Point Lookout, sent a recent email alerting students to a change in the college's "zero tolerance" alcohol and drug policy. The longstanding rule prohibits students from using alcohol or drugs.
But now the college, which has about 1,400 students, has clarified the rule to say that students legally allowed to drink alcohol if they are at least 21 aren't allowed to do so while they're a College of the Ozarks student. That rule is in effect even if they are not on campus.
College spokeswoman Valorie Coleman says the change was administrative and not prompted by any event.
The college is near Branson, about 200 miles southwest of St. Louis.

(90,674 posts)....don't have to go there.
I wouldn't attend such a college, but it has nothing to do with my personal habits and everything to do my freedom of thought and freedom of choice. I would find the atmosphere pretty repressive.

(50,557 posts)It is the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, which will accredit any young-earth creation-teaching institution that brings enough money. It is the accreditation home for colleges that used to be "proudly unaccredited to preserve their religious freedom" until scholarship issuers started demanding their recipient schools be accredited. Liberty used to be in it, but realized the real world won't hire someone with a TRACS-college sheepskin and sought real accreditation.

It's crazy that some place like Liberty can get accredidation for science etc...

The student population is also self-selecting as well as accepted based on the college's goals. They are unlikely to be party crowd to begin with.
