(70,204 posts)a gun-to solve their argument! Yes, then they become criminals! After convictions. I am thinking that there are just too many people with guns-they are easily accessible.

(18,318 posts)Veteran criminals, not most folks' neighbors. Many criminals desperately seek power and status, and murder and mayhem is high on the list of to-dos in order to achieve these. Take the gun away and they will use knives, clubs, their very fists and feet. Persistent violence seems increasingly confined to certain urban areas. I avoid these areas.

(18,318 posts)Situational awareness is the first step in self-defense, whether armed or not. BTW, being armed for self-defense is not social policy -- it is eminently a personal measure. Instead of taking the curiois attitude of hoping for "good guy" measures, then making fun of them (based upon political memes), one should take reasonable personal measures.

Elenores38 your wrong telling the previous person "Instead of taking the curiois attitude of hoping for "good guy"" because that is not his point. His point is we are all tire of hearing from those who don't want anything to change about gun laws. 'If there had been someone with a gun they could have ended the shooters rampage' and "what stops a bad guy with a gun(?) a good guy with a gun. I have heard this Bull$hit so many times that I am sick of it...

(18,318 posts)It matters not to me that Wayne LaPierre or some others push the idea of carrying weapons as a means of effecting social policy. Most pro-2A flks, here and elsewhere, see self-arming as a means of personal protection, not as a way to lower the crime rate; for a number of reasons, that has been falling steadily, and childhood accidental death rates-by-gun have fallen even more dramatically.
I think it is time for everyone to re-examine the efficacy of gun control as social policy; does it lower crime, does it reduce deaths, is there a snowball's chance in hell it can be effected? What is the consequence to the Democratic Party of then persistent advocacy of such prohibitionism?
I do support change to include UBCs, and national reciprocity for carrying arms. This latter measure might actually tighten up standards for those wishing to carry (personaly, I think Texas has a good licensing program for Carrying arms, while blue state Vermont has none at all).

Seems to work that way in Western Europe. And Scandinavia. And Australia. And Japan, regardless of what you allege "most pro-2a folks" believe... (insert rationalization below to better maintain narrative)

(18,318 posts)So it's EZ to paste on a modern gun-control measure and declare victory. It's called post hoc ergo propter hoc.
BTW, what is your take on why the murder-by-gun rate has dropped so much in this country, even as the population has increased and civilian guns in circulation have skyrocketed? (And those three (3) hard facts are a matter of record.)

(37,748 posts)"Thug." There it is. I'd bet myself someone would use the loaded term and there it is. I'll also bet someone will feign ignorance as to its current usage to better justify its use, regardless of political memes...
