House Democrats demand Chaffetz probe Trumps finances

Democrats on Monday made their strongest call to date for a congressional investigation into President-elect Donald Trumps business entanglements and possible conflicts of interest, asking the GOPs top House investigator to launch a formal probe.
Seventeen Democratic members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee called on the panels chairman, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) to begin reviewing [Trumps] financial arrangements in order to identify and protect against conflicts of interest. The demand, in a seven-page letter, comes two weeks after the committees ranking Democrat, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.), made a similar request to Chaffetz.
................
You have the authority to launch a committee investigation, and we are calling on you to use that power now, Cummings and 16 other Democrats wrote. You acted with unprecedented urgency to hold emergency hearings and issue multiple unilateral subpoenas to investigate [Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton] before the election. We ask that you show the same sense of urgency now.
......................................
Before Trumps win on Nov. 8, Chaffetz had pledged to continue vigorous investigating of Clintons use of a private email server while she was secretary of state from 2009 to 2013. Afterward, he said the email investigation would continue. I still have a duty and obligation to get to the truth about one of the largest breaches of security at the State Department, he said on Nov. 9.

Cummings has not gotten a reply from @jansonintheHouse from the first letter. Very disrespectful of him. Shame!

(18,652 posts)Chaffetz should be put on notice this makes a great ad for his opponent in the upcoming re-election campaign if that is Chaffetz' priority. Tweeter-in-Chief's real estate development conflicts with the presidency. Choose, Donald!

(6,974 posts)Totally agree.
There will be no investigations done at all or anytime on his president dOnald tRump. Wouldn't shock me if they tried to re-investigate the dead horse that IS Benghazi to KEEP the focus off of tRump as he and his buddy pUtiN, crooked fBI/doJ do their dirty dealings and running with conflicts of interest up the yang yang and on steroids the next 4 years.

(12,448 posts)Nor will he. But this is Elijah Cummings, who is like a bulldog with a big, meaty bone. He can and likely will make Chaffetz's political life a living hell.

So, Chaffetz, whose server was more "secure"?

(7,188 posts)Last summer Chaffetz spoke about Trump: 'If youre going to run and try to become the president of the United States, Chaffetz replied, youre going to have to open up your kimono and show everything, your tax returns, your medical records. You are . . . just going to have to do that.'

(1,397 posts)Use the Democrats' letter as the basis for a letter that you write to your Representative and Senators, demanding an investigation into Trump's conflicts of interest, his tax returns, and his illegal use of the Trump Foundation.
Send a similar letter to the editor of your local newspapers. Keep it up.
