The first six months of 2012 were the warmest on record in Michigan and the contiguous United States, according to data released Monday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Temperatures across the lower 48 states were 4.5 degrees above average during the first half of the year, more than a full degree hotter than the previous record set in 2006.
In Michigan, temperatures were 6.2 degrees above average, topping the previous high of 1921. An unusually hot March pushed up the average, and we just experienced the state's 17th hottest June, according to records that date back to 1895.

Climate change, anyone?

(6,581 posts)After hitting 90 degrees 2 days in March, with over a week of highs at least 70, it turned around in April and froze about 2 nights out of 3, ruining the state's important fruit crop, with yields expected to be down from 90% to 99% depending upon the crop.
Out of about 100 fruit trees on my property, I so far have found one apple, two peaches, a quince, and a handful of paw paws. Quite the crop this year.
But, of course, there is no man-made climate change, none, nada, zippo.

(8,010 posts)Many will now say "Yes there is climate change but we don't know if it is man-made". At this point the scientific evidence gives the probability that it is man made as a near certainty but the ideologues don't like to let little facts like this get in their way.
