Justice department to deploy mediators to Standing Rock to 'maintain the peace'

Source: The Guardian

Attorney general Loretta Lynch has weighed in on the protests against the Dakota Access pipeline, calling on all sides to avoid violence and announcing that the Justice Department is deploying conciliators from its community relations service to North Dakota.

The department is also offering assistance to local law enforcement from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (Cops), the division that led the departments police reform efforts following massive protests and unrest in 2014 in response to police killings of unarmed African Americans.

We recognize the strong feelings that exist about the Dakota Access pipeline feelings that in many instances arise from the complicated and painful history between the federal government and American Indians, Lynch said. We will remain committed to working with all stakeholders to enforce the law; to maintain the peace; and to reach a just solution to this challenging situation.

be there to witness any civil rights violation

but it will be short lived because this will change in a little over a month, and while there are violent acts and civil rights violations being hurled at the protesters now, under the next administration I can see a Kent State situation happening, only much worse.

We are so screwed because of this election

I wouldn't be surprised if peaceful protests will be ruled illegal when Scalia's seat is filled. We are relying on Kennedy and Roberts, and it is very uncertain what may happen.

The executive branch has held off taking ANY real action until the VERY LAST second. Pipeline or not - we just can't seem to stop looking the other way as to how the REAL Americans get shafted. God blast America.

And they've refused taking payment for it all along. So the ACE thinks they own it - they just can't get those pesky Native Americans to cash the check! It's just as foreign trespassers have refused to recognize their rights since they stepped off the Mayflower.

... on peaceful protesters? Note that "maintain law and order" takes precedence several times in her screed over "preserve the peace." Of course, she's the AG, that's her job.
