Green Party Drops Statewide Pennsylvania Recount
Source: CBS Pittsburgh
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) The Green Party is dropping its court case seeking a recount of Pennsylvanias Nov. 8 presidential election. It had wanted to explore whether voting machines and systems had been hacked and the election result manipulated.
The Green Partys filing came Saturday, saying it couldnt afford the $1 million bond the court had set. A Commonwealth Court hearing had been scheduled in the case for Monday, and the $1 million bond was due later that day.
Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has spearheaded a recount effort in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, states where Republican Donald Trump won narrowly over Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Trump and the Pennsylvania GOP had asked the court to throw out the Green Party-backed request. The GOP argued theres no evidence or even allegation that tampering with the states voting systems occurred and that the law doesnt specifically allow a court-ordered recount.

(183 posts)Just not the lawsuit where she was trying to get a court decision saying ALL percincts needed to be hand counted.
Apparently PA rules for a recount are super tough. 3 voters must file affidavits requesting recount per precinct. That's alot of affidavits. So she filed a lawsuit arguing the court needed to overrule that and request state-wide recounts.

(5,624 posts)are 3 voters per precincts had to file or something like that? It's a tougher state to get a "statewide" recount/audit done in.
I would think those 100 or so precincts that we did get the filing done on would move forward.
Anyone confirm that?
Edited to include -
Stein's campaign intends to continue its county-by-county recount effort in Pennsylvania, said attorney Larry Otter. That requires efforts in individual precincts - a process that requires three voters to petition their local election boards.
In the region, a recount in Philadelphia is already underway in 75 of the citys more than 1,600 divisions. Judges in Bucks and Delaware counties will hear arguments this week on whether to grant recounts, Otter said.

(183 posts)....based on what this article is saying too
It's like the media are hungry for this headline -- trying to make it sound like she is pulling out entirely. She's not. The 100 people under whose name the lawsuit was filed just can't afford the $1 million bond required (by Monday) for the case to go forward. Crazy that anyone has to put up that kind of $ for justice to go forward!

(5,624 posts)would have to put up the money for the bond and NOT Jill? Or could Jill's recount trust fund have paid the million?
Does anyone know?
