(15,237 posts)Of course no mention. Plenty references to grabbing body parts but not shipping lanes. This is not some board room where participants lose money in a competition. Trump the capitalist needs to find out how markets react to a shooting war even if mutual assured destruction is avoided.

(12,650 posts)They want the end of the world, because they think that means they'll be part of the 144K "saved" sitting at the right hand of their teeny, weeny god of their teeny, weeny head space while the billions of rest of the world's population are supposedly judged and sent into hell. They also think they'll avoid the worse of it as they watch the rest of us suffering.
Sadly, they're seriously mistaken, and if there is a god of the entire universe that judges souls, they'll find out that their particular mix of small-minded fear-based, sociopathic belief system is both blasphemous and anathema to any being that would encompasses the entire world throughout time.
They're selfish parasites attempting to pretend they're Gods. If blasphemy was truly a special sin, they're guilty of it. Unfortunately, they're dragging the rest of us down with them.

(67,782 posts)....earlier this year it was reported that the debt was all to the Bank of China, now it seems only $650 million of it is owed to them, a big part of the remaining $300 million is to Goldman Sachs.
Since he has refused to release his tax returns and his financial disclosures have been vague at best, financial experts can only estimate what those numbers really are.

(4,533 posts)China has bought its currency on the markets this past year. That is exactly the opposite of what Trump claims. They ARE manipulating their currency in actions which make their goods cost more in the US and which make US goods cheaper in China.
Trump is a clown.

(101,311 posts)Trump isnt just wrong about what Beijing is doing, hes wrong about the impact it might have. This year, even though the yuan depreciated against the dollar, Chinese exports have not picked up thanks to the weak global economy. It has become less effective and unnecessary for Beijing to use a cheaper yuan to boost exports, noted Shuli Ren of Barrons recently, because the pie is getting smaller and competitive easing can only get you so far.
Recently, with Chinas foreign currency reserves falling to the lowest since 2011, the Chinese central bank are believed to have sold the dollar to ease yuans decline, in an attempt to curb record capital outflows doing exactly the opposite of what Trump claims.

Trump has no idea how this works, or what is going on in the world. But he heard ages ago that China keeps its currency lower than market rates, so that's what he says. He's still campaigning with whatever bullshit will get him cheers at a rally.

(18,632 posts)Even if Trump takes these positions, to blast it all out to the whole world this way without any consultation with the Chinese or American diplomats that are involved with the situation is too bizarre to imagine.
It is a major insult. Sooner or later the Chinese will have to do something, if for no other reason than to save face, a major factor in Asian societies. It will be considered shameful to just sit by and let him tear them down publically like this.
What will their response be I wonder?
I doubt it will be something that we enjoy very much.

That ought to slow down the war mongering.

(18,652 posts)I am no expert on this area but have done some reading/research about this issue recently for a college course. So far, China does NOT have a massive complex so described but is constructing air strips, buildings, radar installations and road strips on some of its "islands"---these are actually rocks or coral reefs that are enlarged to "islands." It appear that China possibly has plans for a massive military complex but is not there yet.
Also, China may not get there b/c one big typhoon could blow away any complex they might build on manmade islands.
