Kasich to electors: Don't vote for me
Source: The Hill
Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) is urging presidential electors not to cast a vote for him over President-elect Donald Trump, arguing that the effort will only deepen the divide in America.
I am not a candidate for president and ask that electors not vote for me when they gather later this month, Kasich said in a statement Tuesday. Our country had an election and Donald Trump won.
Kasich was a vocal opponent of Trump during the GOP presidential race and wouldnt endorse his former rival leading up to the election.
But in Tuesday's statement, the Ohio governor noted that after a divisive and bruising election, Americans must unite and move forward.

This is basically the death-knell for any revived attempt to prevent Trump from taking the presidency. The US electorate will get what they voted for.

(26,286 posts)the common sense to elect Hillary as she won the popular and she doesnt have mental issues like Trump.
Granted the smidgen of hope is small that the electoral college will do its job and keep someone who is unfit like Trump has shown himself to be from taking office but the smidgen is still there nonetheless.

(898 posts)And must be united in blocking Trump in any way possible. It is critical that there is a united front and that his poisonous message is completely unacceptable. The long-term health of American society is truly at stake and future generations will judge us accordingly. Rightfully so.

(18 posts)If a significant number of Trump presidential electors voted for someone other than Trump, and neither candidate received 270 votes, would it trigger a do over? Or would the Congress then just pick?

(2,781 posts)Now they're waking up and seeing what many of us in Ohio have known all along. Kasich is no liberal.
He's hardly the man of principle he and his surrogates portrayed him as being out the campaign trail--the "adult" in the room as he liked to be portrayed in contrast with his competitors.
They buffed up his record here in Ohio out in New Hampshire. But it doesn't take much scrubbing to take all the wax off, between JobsOhio, fracking, charter school corruption, SB5/Right-to-Work, anti-abortion, anti-urban policy, and so on. We're worse off here than when he took office in 2010, blaming the recession on our previous Governor, Ted Strickland who actually did a pretty nice job trying to reposition us in the aftermath of the 2007-8 crash.
Simply put, he's a right-wing asshole. Always was, always will be. From my view, the one silver lining to Trump winning is that Kasich's own presidential hopes have been permanently destroyed, and I say that as someone who hates what Trump represents, and what he will do to this country and the world. But Kasich in my view would not have been a trade up, just another Wall Street asshole wearing a smile, but who is ready to pick your pocket the instant you turn your back to him.

(25,468 posts)The consensus, from what I saw, was that he was significantly more conservative than his public persona, so I think most people (here, at least) are in line with your thinking. He was exposed pretty thoroughly in the threads I recall. Granted, I didn't read every thread, etc.
Most of the discussion I remember was more about the relative negatives between Kasich and the others. I thought then - and still believe now - that Trump is worse, though I agree that it's only a matter of degree. Kasich is arguably worse on the domestic front, but Trump might be insane.

(36,745 posts)Think about it. He's asking not to be considered. That means there are a significant number of electors who are ready to dump Dump.
