Holocaust attorney sues FBI over election interference that could lead to impeachment of Trump
Source: David Edwards - 8 Dec 2016 - rawstory.com
E. Randol Schoenberg, an attorney renowned for recovering artworks stolen by Nazis during the Holocaust, filed a lawsuit against the FBI this week to get answers about why Director James Comey falsely suggested that Hillary Clinton committed a crime just days before the 2016 election.
I filed a lawsuit today against the US Department of Justice seeking immediate disclosure of the FBI search warrant for the e-mails of Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin on Anthony Weiners laptop, Schoenberg wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday. I think we need to see what probable cause was shown for obtaining the search warrant, because whoever thought there was going to be evidence of a crime was obviously mistaken. And that mistake probably changed the outcome of the election.
In a blog post late last month, Schoenberg explained that it would be very unusual for a judge to grant the FBI a search warrant [s]imply because someone has the ability to commit the crime of intentionally violating laws governing the handling of classified information.
To obtain a warrant it had to establish probable cause to believe that evidence of a crime would be found. Since we now know that no such evidence was found on the laptop, it is time to investigate why the FBI believed it had probable cause.

Rigging elections is a perfect crime if nothing can be done about it.

(8,445 posts)At least there's an effort, as opposed to the analyzing by many of why we "lost". We didn't lose. The reason we didn't win is Comey, Wikileaks (a whole lotta nothing), fake news, and a decades long vendetta against someone who has worked tirelessly all her life for the good of the country.

(22,681 posts)I saw analogies before the election of this being similar to a high school class president election, where there was the scholar with a proven record of years of service building coalitions, bring people together for everyone's betterment. The opponent was the class clown that had never done anything for anyone else but himself, was a loner and was basically running for office as a joke.
I cannot contemplate how our country will dig out of this error in four years, if the World as we know it doesn't end by then.

(1,002 posts)This is inspiring news! All of us must fight becoming peasants under Trump's dictatorship. Even a single candle held up against the dark can make a difference. I live in far SW Colorado right next to the tribal lands of the Ute Mountain Utes. I just now got the news that my county must now print voter ballots in the Ute Language, as well as English. Score one for our side! Now the local Dems. self included, must go to the Utes, spend time talking and winning at least some trust, and maybe, just maybe my rural Colorado county will go from red to blue in the next election (assuming we have one). Don't give up hope. Fight back as hard as you can!

(158 posts)Snips from a 2014 article about an enemy, ALEC and a possible new ally ALICE:
"ALEC Could Be Coming to Your City Soon: The American City County Exchange
On Wednesday, ALEC announced the launch of a new offshoot that will apply ALECs modus operandi of courting legislators with corporate lobbyists to draft model bills advancing corporate interests to the local level.
This new arm of ALEC, the American City County Exchange (ACCE), held its first meeting last Wednesday at the Hilton Anatole. ACCE will work in conjunction with ALEC to influence elected representatives in city and county council positions, while ALEC focuses on state legislatures.
... workshop scheduled for Thursday is called: Releasing Local Governments from the Grip of Collective Bargaining.
* * *
A progressive ALEC could be in the birthing stages with the announcement of a merger of the American Legislative and Issue Campaign Exchange (ALICE) and the Progressive States Network.
* * *
ALEC played a role in founding the State Policy Network (SPN) . . . that includes affiliated think tanks and trade associations in every state, as well as national members such as the Heritage Foundation, Americans for Prosperity and the Cato Institute.
. . . they coordinate to support ALECs conservative agenda to promote the privatization of the public sector, to attack renewable energy policies, public employee unions and policies ALEC opposes.
. . .the think tanks and organizations involved in SPN are overwhelmingly funded through dark money groups and that some of these organizations disseminate faux news backed anonymously by corporate interests. "

(6,409 posts)Can we please stop this? There is not going to be any impeachment. Trump could sodomize and murder an eight year old boy in the capitol rotunda, and not be impeached.
Things like this eat away at the maggot. Galls him.

Little Donny is so arrogant that he thinks he is impervious to being accused of any wrong-doing. It could be his downfall. Remember Orion. In Greek mythology, Orion the Hunter boasted that the greatest beast could not defeat him. Zeus sent the scorpion to sting him to death; he was defeated, not by the strongest of beasts, but by one of the smallest. He was then placed in the sky to show all the result of his arrogance.

(6,409 posts)Let's say he does something unthinkable, such as lying about oral sex. It is counterproductive to present this as a reason to impeach him. The more we scream "Impeach him! IMPEACH HIM!" the more the voters will see it as a partisan vendetta. We need to concentrate on the substantive things, his broken promises, his foreign policy failures, his gutting of workplace safety and environmental regulation. His game is personalities, and we just found out we can't win his game. We can't level the plying field, so we need to play soccer instead of rugby, or something like that.

That is the only scenario I imagine leading to impeachment.

I've reflected on how I have grounds to file just as much as any citizen, on equal justice grounds, and not just against an outcome but to seek remedy for electoral inequities due to state-by-state disparities in right to vote restrictions and kinds of voting, in other words to use the courts to force fair and transparent elections.

(15,262 posts)What matters is the point of law.
Of course, the fact that Hillary was going to win the vote could be argued as the reason they needed a search warrant to create the inference of a crime. It could also be argued that even with Comey in the mix, they still needed to switch 50,000 votes to steal the Electoral College, but try to take that to court.
TomVilmer
(1,832 posts)... but your elections are a different game. The Democratic war room was playing it wrong, and lost. They used all their campaigning and money to assure a big turnout of voters, who in reality was unnecessary for winning this game and just produced millions of superfluous votes. The Trump campaign played it much better, and won the popular vote in the most states. And more importantly, in the states where the votes really count by your archaic election system.
Please stop dreaming, that total popular vote count will ever be the future goal post. What might be possible, is changing the way the Electoral College is selected. If the prior elections for the last 25 years then can be counted in a way, where the resulting winning majority is shared between the parties at the same number of times, as the reality was - you might be able to convince the Republicans.
Any other solution will never happen.
