Weekly Address: Its Time to Get Covered on the Health Insurance Marketplace
Source: White House
In this weeks address, President Obama discussed Open Enrollment on the Health Insurance Marketplace, which began November 1. The deadline to sign up for coverage beginning on January 1 is this Thursday, December 15, and the final deadline to sign up for 2017 coverage is January 31. Today, thanks to the Affordable Care Act, every American with insurance is covered by the strongest set of consumer protections in history.
For every person with insurance, preventive care is available with no cost sharing; there are no more annual or lifetime limits on essential health care; you cant get charged more just for being a woman; young people can stay on a parents plan until they turn 26; seniors get discounts on their prescriptions; and no one can be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition. Although Republicans in Congress want to repeal this law, the President emphasized that we should build on the progress weve already made. To sign up for health care coverage, visit HealthCare.gov or call 1-800-318-2596.

If youre not covered yet, now is the time to sign up. Go to HealthCare.gov and shop for the plan thats right for you. Like most Americans who get coverage through HealthCare.gov, theres a good chance youll find a plan that costs less than $75 a month. And while the enrollment period lasts until the end of January, as long as you sign up by this Thursday, December 15, youll be covered starting January 1.
Now, this doesnt apply to the roughly 250 million Americans who already get insurance through the workplace, or thanks to Medicare or Medicaid. But heres what does. Every American with insurance is covered by the strongest set of consumer protections in history a true Patients Bill of Rights. You now have free preventive care, like mammograms and contraception. There are no more annual or lifetime limits on the essential care you receive. Women cant get charged more just for being a woman. Young people can stay on a parents plan until they turn 26, and seniors get discounts on their prescriptions. Every American can rest free from the fear that one illness or accident will derail your dreams -- because discrimination against preexisting conditions is now illegal. And since 2010, weve seen the slowest health care price growth in 50 years.

(22,651 posts)they mail the form I need to do my taxes. I signed-up for paper mail and phone call reminders, I don't like online paperless for anything relating to insurance corporations.

(22,651 posts)similar to basic car insurance, 'collision' only.
This time I'm worried Republicans will dump millions from insurance someday soon. So I'm spending from my savings on a higher premium for a plan with very low outofpocket cost. I'm healthy but I figure it would be good to have access now to MRIs, ultrasounds, and several blood panels for best screening.
just for a year I want the best, top tier insurance like the wealthy people always enjoy. Before Republicans remove millions from any insurance and allow insurance corps to 'cherry pick', kick out sick and deny coverage.

(128,699 posts)And glad he reminded folks about the falsities of the GOP talking points. RW loons still call up progressive talk shows and spew all sorts of nonsense and then start laughing like the sick fucks that they are. But we can only hope that this crap now being proposed to basically cut/scrap SS & Medicare goes nowhere.
Thanks for posting!

(8,745 posts)I make more than the maximum allowed. Not complaining about that.
But the policies available for me run from $500-$700. Around $7500 per year.
The $500 range policy has a $6500 deductible.
There's nothing about this that is tenable for me.

(823 posts)...on healthcare.gov as the cost of BCBS per month has tripled starting in 2017. I am covered under Medicare but she still has a couple of years to go. Just have to make our first payment before the end of December.
