Top Congress Members Call For Investigation Into Russian Interference In The Election

Source: The Huffington Post

WASHINGTON ― A growing number of senior Democrats and Republicans are demanding a congressional investigation into Russia’s influence in the U.S. presidential election.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), the incoming Senate minority leader, called for an investigation Saturday after The Washington Post reported the previous day that the CIA found Russia had worked to help Donald Trump win. In a secret assessment, the CIA concluded that Russia wasn’t only working to undermine confidence in the election, but actively trying to help Trump, the Post reported.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has already pledged to work with Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, to investigate Russia’s influence in the election. McCain said on Saturday that he had no doubts the Russians had interfered in the election.

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, has also called for hearings and Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) has told The New York Times it’s clear the Russians were behind the attacks. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, has said Russia is behind the attacks and complained to the Times that intelligence agencies had misjudged the country’s President Vladimir Putin.

I do not know who is who and who does what.

The point is that at least their attention has been grabbed and something is beginning to happen which is SOMETHING. Sure it takes time to write a letter and it may be of no use at all but hey, AT LEAST YOU TRIED!

Here is a sample letter I wrote and sent to the President about an hour ago:

*****

Dear Mr. President,
I am writing to you to let you know that I believe our country is in grave danger due to the possible illegitimate presidential election that took place. Today I read that the Russians had a role in the outcome of this election.
Because of this concern alone, I am demanding that this issue be addressed and investigated in full prior to swearing in Donald Trump as President of the United States.
I find Mr. Trump to be a frightening person and I cannot believe a word he says being his statements change on a daily basis.
I fear for our country Mr. President and while your time in office is short, there is still time to do something about this treasonous behavior that We the People are witnessing.
Thank you for you prompt attention to my request for a thorough investigation.
Sincerely,

********

I wrote this letter. Others have my permission to use it if needed.

I expect nothing to come of any of this except tRump digging in his heels. WE. ARE. FUCKED.

But even if loads of proof come out that the Russians and the Orange Mennace rigged the election do we REALLY think anything will come of it? I don't see the repubs impeaching him...or even taking a moral stand. I certainly don't see one of these God awful cainet picks holding Putin accountable...again maybe I'm just tired of the bullshit....but somehow I just don't see anything happening...just my opinion tho

I think that's a fairly accurate prediction based on the past actions of Congress.

Somebody might get a slap on the wrist, but I expect we'll just get some wordy reports and bloviating on TV. That's about it.

and it's safe to assume confidence in our institutions and the peaceful transfer of power are squarely on Obama's mind these days. It's all more than a little unnerving not having a full picture of what's going on, but one things for sure, I'm so glad we have Obama in the White House for another month and a half. I'm confident he will do what's best for the country.

how? easy: Russians didn't release it to Wikileaks, but threatened to do so, and shared with certain Republicans exactly which documents they intended to release.

blammo! one major party crippled from the outside, the other compromised from within, and Putin laughing all the way to the bank
