Bombs outside Istanbul soccer stadium kill 29, wound 166: minister

Source: Reuters

A car bomb followed by a suicide bombing less than a minute later killed 29 people and wounded 166 outside a soccer stadium in Istanbul on Saturday night, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said.

All but two of those killed in the blasts were police officers, Soylu told a news conference with other government ministers. He said 17 of the wounded were undergoing surgery and another six were in intensive care.

Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus said the suicide bomber had detonated 45 seconds after the car bomb. Soylu said 10 people had been detained based on evidence from the detonated vehicle.

W wanted to remake the Middle East. He wanted to change the old order. So instead of stability, we now have bombings. Mission accomplished, W.

If George W. Bush is not a war criminal, then no one - past or present - is a war criminal.

And the Kurds are the most likely suspects as the bomb was aimed primarily at security forces. The Kurds are the same people fighting IS in Syria and Iraq with western backing.

It's a bloody mess, but Dubya did make this one hell of a lot messier.

The Turkish government says Kurdish militants appear to be responsible for twin bomb attacks on police outside a stadium in Istanbul on Saturday.

Deputy PM Numan Kurtulmus said initial findings pointed towards the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has targeted security forces in the past.

At least 38 people died when a car bomb and a suicide bomber hit a police truck near Istanbul's Vodafone Arena.

Mr Numan told CNN Turk news channel that about 300-400kg (660-880lb) of explosives had been used in Saturday evening's attack.
