Minnesota elector refuses to back Clinton
Source: The Hill
A Minnesota Democratic elector has become the first "faithless elector" of Monday's nationwide Electoral College vote after refusing to vote for Hillary Clinton.
Muhammad Abdurrahman, a former Bernie Sanders delegate to the Democratic National Convention, attempted to vote for a presidential ticket of Sanders and Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, according to The Associated Press's Kyle Potter.
Abdurrahman's vote was declared invalid and an alternate elector was appointed, allowing the state to go ahead and deliver its 10 electoral votes for Hillary Clinton.

These Sanders purists will let Trump say that even Clinton Electors don't like her...

(13,421 posts)I agree that the time for Dems to be brawling about our primary is long passed. However, it does smell like hypocrisy to bust anybody's ass for doing the same thing that all the petitions were asking for over on the GOP side of the aisle.

(13,421 posts)I've seen a lot of other folks calling for it lately, I should not have assumed. My apologies.
If I'm being honest, I've been in some form of the whole "anger/bargaining/denial" process since the election. I suspect a lot of others have been too. I am like a lot of other old timers--in that I've seen the swing of the electoral pendulum several times over the years. In the past, I could look at it, hate what I was seeing, then get out and start organizing to reverse the tides. This time, however, has been so incredibly ugly--and painful--that I honestly think people are not acting as they ordinarily would.
Peace to you.

I voted for Clinton.
Vote for Clinton and stop giving Trump and the GOP more ammo.
Damn it.

(53,032 posts)The Republicans all stick together to back Trump and the Democrats divide themselves. This is precisely the sort of thing that enabled Trump to be elected. And now we see people continuing to sow division to ensure the GOP remain permanently in power.
And Tulsi Gabbard? Good god. The man has a Muslim name and he votes for her?
The more of this kind of stupidity I see, the less hope I have for the future of the nation. The GOP doesn't need to do shit when the Democrats are busy destroying themselves.

(16,829 posts)For some its a mindless rubber stamp. For others its the occasion to make a statement. It distorts the presidential election by making some states overly important and others irrelevant.
Our Democracy is too important to hang it on these shenanigans. Lets get rid of it.
