Man Surrenders in Little Rock 'Road Rage' Shooting That Killed Boy, 3

Source: NBC News

An Arkansas man was charged with capital murder late Thursday in the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old boy last weekend — described as a case of "road rage" over a delay at a stop sign.

The suspect — identified as 33-year-old Gary Holmes — surrendered to police Thursday night after he was wanted on a warrant, Little Rock police Lt. Steve McClanahan told NBC News.

McClanahan would not release further information, but the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office confirmed the capital murder charge against Holmes as well as two counts of terroristic acts stemming from Saturday's incident.

Toddler Acen King was shot while his grandmother, Kim King-Macon, was driving during a shopping trip Saturday afternoon. The gunman was apparently angry that King-Macon "wasn't moving fast enough at a stop sign," McClanahan said at the time.

'McClanahan has said investigators believe the grandmother is "completely innocent" in the incident.'

Why on earth would the reporter feel compelled to include that, I wonder.

Tough to picture it but I suppose the statement was an attempted answer to the dumbfounded question of why was this guy so angry. Did she slam on her brakes in front of him, engage in solemn kind of drag racing... no, she was completely innocent.

And crap like this just happens, in America.

Too much "angry" energy everywhere.

What is bothering me is the unspoken criticism that a man shooting a gun at her might have somehow been her fault. The police lieutenant apparently thinks the woman has to be "exonerated."

It's not the first time a woman has been tacitly accused of doing something to make a man angry. As if a man's anger is justifiable, by default.

It was a woman the lieutenant made sure to say was completely innocent. I love that "completely," by the way. He (and the reporter) wanted us to know that the woman wasn't even A LITTLE BIT at fault.

I'm trying to picture the cop being interviewed saying, about a man, "he was completely innocent," and I can't.

Or is Little Rock just filled with the types of people who would shoot into a car for taking too long at a stop sign?

I noticed this tragedy comes less than a month after a 2-year old was gunned down in a drive-by in a still unsolved case.

years were driving home the other night in my neighborhood when a middle aged man in a truck laid on his horn and would not stop. My mom's friend who was driving, thought she might have left off her gas cap since she had just filled up. She opened her door to look back and check when he unloaded with expletives at her.

It really scared these two little old ladies to death! Has the RW media, which uses fear and anger to gain viewers who will watch/listen all day, gone so far as to make this seem ok? They have poured gasoline all over the house and are handing out matches!

a (probably) illegal gun, and he killed a kid just because a lady honked at him. There's no way anyone is going to do him any favors.

BTW: I'm not, in anyway, blaming the grandmother in this. Honking at this impatient guy was absolutely the right thing to do. I was using his reasoning. He's a piece of crap that should have been in prison a long time ago.

the guys' lawyer, the judge...

A quick, easy guilty plea to a lesser charge, unless there is a LOT of public outrage, will probably be the rule.

And, since he had an illegal gun, he ought to get 10 years right on top of whatever sentence (if lower) that gets dished out. MANDATORY gun crime sentence.

I don't blame the grandmother anyway. Isn't that a stereotype of NYC drivers anyway, they drive with their horn?

Honking at someone isn't a death penalty.

I wonder if he was convicted of either one and if so, did he buy his gun on the street or did a licensed gun dealer sell it to him without a proper background check.

so what's he doing out on the street? Our justice system is broken, those convicted of violent crimes shouldn't get a slap on the wrist, couple years in, then out.
